Possibly it would be good if somewhat more transparency came into the project? A "Whats done, whats left to do"-Thread combined with the Eyecandy-Threads can avoid many irritating questions.

And perhaps one see something in the to-do-list, that he/she can do, and join?

I can't speak for the Diaspora team but I'm going to guess that open development would be a nightmare.

Problem with those is that we get more "Why is model x still unfinished?, why is model y still untextured?" questions instead. Backseat project management is always fun.

Things will get a hell of a lot more transparent as R1 gets closer. Those of you who were around when the BtRL demo was under development will remember that we got a lot more specific about what was left to do as it became less and less work.

I guess I'll never understand why people keep asking questions which simply can't get answered or are answerable by themselves. I'm Dev by myself, but not for any FS project and a transparent development is a mess. Not that we've made any so far, but we've watched others and it really became worse after the game or whatsoever was released. Then people begin really to cry about things that maybe were skipped during development or were even different than they had expected. People then start crying and argueing with the Devs what they could have done better. That's why it's better to look at feedback and ideas from a community and try to realize as much of it as possible without losing quality of the initial gameplay. If anything turned really worse, there's the possibility to patch it away or better.

That picture is missing something important. A sign that says something like "Get the frak off. You'll mess up this precious blue pearl in about 150k years."
