I demand the Britain buys the Nimitz, as with it being Nuclear powered, in only needs to refuel every FOURTEEN YEARS!

A manned nuclear bomb? If it crashes wouldn't it go radiation on your ass?

Tiara, most carriers and submarines in the US Navy run on nuclear energy. They aren't bombs, although if the reactor does get breached somehow, the pollution would be very bad indeed. At least to sea life.......

Hehe, that's probably true, and since it has a crew of SIX THOUSAND, that would be quite a problem.

BTW, ever seen that supposed radio transcript where a US carrier group is speaking with a Canadian ship (they think) and demand that is alters course. This goes on for a few minutes, each side demanding that the other changes course. It ends with this;

US navy: We are a US carrier group, We have the USS Nimitz, 2 cruisers, 4 destroyers and 4 frigates, we suggest that you change you course to avoid us.

Canadian "fleet": We're a lighthouse. It's your call.

Actually here it is, the transcript. I've just found it through a quick google blast.

This is the transcript of an actual radio conversation between a US navel ship and the Canadian coastguard.
Coastguard: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the south to avoid a collision.
Americans:Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees to the north, to avoid a collision.
C: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees south to avoid a collision.
A: This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.
C: Negative. I say again, you will have to divert your course.
A: This is the aircraft carrier US Lincoln, the second largest ship in the United States Atlantic fleet, we are accompanied by three distroyers, three cruisers and numerous support vessels. I demand you change your course 15 degrees north or countermeasures will be undertaken to secure the safety of this ship.
C: We're a lighthouse - Your call

Is it a Native Dutch one, though? I've never heard of any carriers being built in Holland.

Its very likely you never truly studied history :p

When the Dutch Navy (Royal Netherlands Navy) is mentioned, few people think of aircraft carriers. In fact four aircraft carriers have flown the Dutch flag - two Merchant Aircraft Carriers, a single escort carrier, and a light fleet carrier.

:wtf:

That is truly odd. It's not even as though you have that much coastline (at home, anyway)

I didn't say they were all at the same time. Also you must remember that Holland controlled Indonesia for some time. And they have plenty of coastline :p

Also, the Zeven Provincieën is the biggest.

The dutch needed a fleet to "protect" their colonies in the Dutch East Indies etc. pre WWII and for a short spell after it. The numerous carriers and submarines were for ASW during the cold war as the RN and the RDN(?) had to make up France's ASW commitement as well as their own.
