[Start Log]

I heard....whispers in my head today, as i was piloting the Leviathan. When we touched down, the whispers became screams.

The same thing, repeated again and again. Screaming. Always screaming.

Re: HLPX-COM 2: Electric Shot From Deep One Boogaloo
Again with the poor use of grenades. There was nothing in there and the cul-de-sac contained the blast.

Sandwich makes two contacts. One of them has a Disruptor Pulse Launcher. Gotta deal with that.

The Sea Lion launches its first shot. It lands significantly off-target and the reload system is slower than expected. The Tasoth survived. Well, this is one field test that's not going well. Zeke drops the Tasoth with the the DPL, Gortef brings down the other.

Two grenades land, one of them blowing up the corpse of the DPL Tasoth. The other lands just short of SpardaSon22 and the Sea Lion. Neither has their armor breach.

The thrower was another DPL Tasoth. Why they didn't use their Disruptor Pulse Launcher is a mystery I am completely uninterested in solving. The Sea Lion launches its second missile. This one has a much tighter plotted course with a sharp terminal popup and dive maneuver, so the deviation shouldn't be as bad.

It wasn't. Direct hit, good kill.

Dekker spots a second Tasoth with a DPL next to the the first one the Sea Lion killed and brings it down. At this point I think we can call the threat level of this mission “ridiculous”.

The aliens continue to blow up their own corpses and gear. This one went to one of the Tiger Sharks and SpardaSon.

While this one went to Sandwich and Backslash.

Sandwich met an alien with a stun weapon. It demonstrated some fire discipline when it didn't actually shoot him after he missed it, but that did not buy it anything since Sandwich simply shot it the next turn.

Mission Complete. Considering the number of Disruptor Pulse Launchers in play (we recovered 8 of them from the field and I think several of them were blown up by errant grenades) I'm surprised, though gratified, that things went so well.

The M.C. stat results should be in pretty soon and I can think about organizing a final assault team. We can either run some missions with it, or go direct to T'Leth. Your choice.

Corrupted save files sound scary.

I say assemble launch the assault sooner rather then later.

--- Gortefs personal log ---

[Entry number #2]
[Date Redacted]

I had forgotten all about this thing here. But for a good reason, we finally got ourself a transporter. And not just any transporter but a Leviathan, it's a beauty.
That means our High Commander has been sending us onto misson after mission so I haven't really had time to think anything else.

I almost forgot my promise to buy Sandwich a drink when we get back from our first mission.

I got a nice shot even if there was lot's of obstacles in the way, but I gotta say that if you see a spot you just take the shot. I saw that alien elbow nice and clearly.

Team spirit is good and we're depating wether we should hit the aliens back or play defencively a bit more. Let's see how this goes.

---Personal Log---
Date: f**k you, space-time

I never put much stock in leaving logs, but I guess it's the last thing I have to do to keep myself from going stir-crazy with all this waiting.  I'm back up for enlistment with HLPX-COM.  That's something I never expected.  We went to Cydonia and gave those ET's the boot, a real hard lead boot.  I thought that was the end of it, and after HLPX-COM disbanded the only people interested in someone whose specialization is 'killing aliens' is the military.  I signed on, they shunted me to R&D as a f**king lab rat.  'Cryostasis for medical purposes' my arse.  SURGERIES DON'T TAKE 40 YEARS.  Everyone I knew went off and had a life while I chilled out like a popsicle.  I quit first thing after they thawed me, but finding a job after being frozen 40 years is even harder than after curb-stomping alien invaders.  Didn't even give me my back-pay.  Something about 'sleeping on the job.'

But guess what? The HLPX-COM program started up again.  Who would have thought.  'What the hell, I might as well' was all I could think.   Ran down to the recruitment office asap, but apparently 40 years of cryo means I'm on the bottom of the list.  And so here I am, back with HLPX-COM and it only seems like 6 months since Cydonia.

If I don't get my assignment soon, I'm going back to the Army, gonna get those idiots to freeze me till the world ends or there's a coup.  They'll do anything as long as it's 'for science.'

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

I'll fly the Interceptors on that one, too. :P

At this point I'm fairly certain I'm the only participant in all three X-COM let's plays to have not died a single time, despite having participated in ground combat in two of them.

My log entry will probably happen sometime after the final assault.

I'm not taking earlies because we know so little about the game, it's impossible to predict how many people will get in. Hell, this run of TFTD was completely bizarre when it comes to causalities.

This will be the team that goes on the final attack. I could take two more, I guess, or drop two and take another tank, but I rather like the four from each Squad symmetry to it and frankly with M.C. resistances like this it'll probably come down to weapon against weapon. We can win that without the extras.

If this is a colossal mistake and we needed two more people...oops.

Final Assault Team (Leviathan 1)
BloodEagle, Commander, 81 TU, 29 Missions, 22 Kills, M.C. Strength 71
