Title: Bug Fixes Compilation
Post by: Vasudan Commander on September 27, 2008, 04:20:58 am
Hi,

I've heard awesome things about blue planet, and i just downloaded the LATEST vp file of it.

However im a little wary as to running it and whether it will work or not.

Is it possible to have all the bug fixes compiled into one single thread, rather then having them mixed and stickied all over the place - the dates are mixed and jumbled and i dont know whether to download them all or whether they are already incorporated into the latest version of BP.

If the latest version of Blue Planet incorporates all the bug fixes, please let me (and others) know.

Thanks

Blue Planet (http://darius.rabidcarrot.com/releases/blueplanet.rar): Updated root VP incorporating bugfixes of patch. (RAR, 84 MB)
All the bug-fixes should be included in the root .vp. The fixed Ravana probably isn't, but that is a 3.6.10 MediaVP issue, not a BP issue.

There are a couple of bugs that haven't been addressed yet (such as the crashing of ship selection in "Keepers of Hell", and some missions will still have some missing debriefings). But most of the show-stopping bugs that people encountered in the first few months after release should be fixed in the latest VP.

Im getting a crash error as soon as i load the first mission

ERROR : cant open model file <none>
file j:\src\cvs\fs2_open_3_6_9.final\code\model\modelread.cpp
Line: 1902

Dunno what the hell is up with this  :wtf:

any way around it?

p.s i downloaded the latest version of BP .vp file

BP sort of requires the MediaVPs. Cook up a mod.ini or download one from the release thread. (I wonder if this issue should also be stickied.)

I ran Blue Planet with the 3.6.9 official release fs_open.exe and the 3.6.9 MediaVPs and the only bug I remember seeing was the missle launchers on the Shivan cruisers (Cain, Lilith or both, I don't remember for sure) being called Beam Turrets, but still firing missles mind you.

Yeah I was thinking of how I would go about troubleshooting that and what sort of problems not having the MediaVPs would bring up. Vasudan Commander's idea of having them all in one big troubleshooting thread is also not a bad idea, as there's already a few stickies up at the moment, which can seem daunting to someone new.

There was a similar bug I encountered during testing of the Sathanas mission where one of the main beams is called "AAAf beam" or something similar. They might both have the same source. No idea what could cause it though.

EDIT:
I'm too lazy to check, but I seem to recall the Cain and/or Lilith had their missile turrets replaced with beams for this mod... or am I remembering it wrong?

No.  It's just some sort of weird bug that makes all missile launchers be labled "Beam Turret"

I was actually just gonna say the same thing. Something like "Troubleshooting: Read Before Posting" with a list of the issues people most often ask about. There are four troubleshooting threads and it might indeed freak some new people out.

You can, of course, run a debug build and post the fs2_open.log from \freespace2\data\.

Vasudan Commander, didn't the mod.ini I gave you fix the problem? If the game still crashes, in the launcher, in the gameplay section of the features, choose 3D Ship Selection to be turned on. Then, make sure you got the -jpgtga maps feature on in the graphics section. Should fix all the issues I know.

And Darius, just have the new weapons in tbms. And the new weapons effects in yet another tbm, while the original new weapon tbm has retail graphics linked. The rest of the weapons can be a retail weapons.tbl. So who doesn't have the mediavps, will get retail weapon graphics loaded ( or the ones you included in the pack ). And those who have the mediavp package will get the mediavp grade weapons loaded.

Yep, I understand that's how the FS Upgrade people have done their MediaVP releases. It's a good idea. If I get time I'll definitely do a re-release in that format.
