Title: Help with last mission
Post by: raegar on April 02, 2008, 10:21:33 am
Hi everyone, I´m playing 3.6.9 version on hard mode, and im having some problems  ;) with the last two missions...

I fly with the default ship config (wing alpha flying hercs and beta space superiority). After a few restarts, i could get to the sol node in "the great hunt" with just one ship down and 2-3 below 50% hull damage. So I get to the final mission with those plus epsilon and delta wing...

...But here i got th problem: I can´t barelly get to the Lucifer (don´t even talk about destroying one single engine  :P) before my hole squad gets destroyed by the shivans. I´ve tried to send my wings to disarm lucifer first, as said on wiki walkthrough, but by the time i get there my squad has been reduced to 1 or 2 ships, and lucifer´s weapons still at 100%. I´ve read that the previous mission (great hunt) seems to be harder than the last one, but i can´t get through it. Should i repeat the "great hunt" and try to pass it with all my wingmen and hull?.

I wouldn´t like to set difficulty to "medium", and i´m sure im doing something wrong, because on "hard" i´ve passed most of the levels without many problems. Thx for the answers.

The Shivan fighters shouldn't be a problem... I'm not sure what's going on. I guess one choice would be to tell all your wingmen to cover you while you take out the Lucy's reactors (could try replaying Great Hunt and using an Ursa instead).

That's what I always did; I stuck myself in an Ursa and took out the reactor subsystems.

Thx for the answers :). I´ve repeated "the great hunt" with the same ship config and passed without losing a ship and only 20% of the squad´s hulls below 50%...But still can´t beat the last one xD. Is there any way of getting through this Flying a Hercules?. And a question: ¿How do u aim a specific subsystem?. I mean, If I aim the lucifer´s weapon subsys, and then give the "destroy subsys" order to the squad they seem to attack random lucifer´s subs, not the one i pointed.

Again, sorry about my english xD.

Aim a specific subsystem? Just select the target and hit S until the desired subsystem is selected. As for the behaviour of wingmen, you can never really know what they might do. If you have a subsystem selected and you give the order to destroy it, they should do it. But you never know.

Wait, wait, he didn't know how to select a subsystem for the entire game? :wtf:

What orders did you give them? I think they join you even if they don't reach the node, so just tell them to engage-enemy. I think.

Is there any way of getting through this Flying a Hercules?

I guess you could pack Disruptors, but it's MUCH MUCH easier in an Ursa since just 1 Harbinger takes out each reactor.

And a question: ¿How do u aim a specific subsystem?. I mean, If I aim the lucifer´s weapon subsys, and then give the "destroy subsys" order to the squad they seem to attack random lucifer´s subs, not the one i pointed.

Press [S] repeatedly until you find the subsystem you want. And also, destroying weapons subsystem does little do the weapons, it only decreases their accuracy. You'd have more luck blowing up the turrets that are annoying you (you could press [K] until you see the turret which is attacking you, or pressing [V] while looking at a subsystem or turret will target that subsystem or turret). Taking an Ursa is best, since Harbingers are easier to use against the Lucy's subsystems. Disruptors are rather useless.

BTW, what is killing you? IIRC the Shivan fighters shouldn't be the problem since they're using one of the weakest weapons in the game. If it is the Lucifer herself, you COULD try taking Disruptor Missiles and disrupt her so you can have a chance to blow her up, but I'm not sure how effective that would be.

I also advice pressing all the time c-3-4 ;)

I know how to select a subsystem  :D, i wasn´s sure that my squadmates where attacking it where selected and ordered to do (c-3-4).

Hrm, I don't see what hte problem is, I've always found this mission insanely easy. I never even told the AI what to do, I just flew a herc and obliterated any Shivan fighter that showed up... and always won. AIs always seemed to do the job correctly on that one. Maybe try just letting them go at it?

Don't worry about attacking the Lucifer (except on higher difficulties where you may need to kill the Lucifer's weapons system).  Delta wing (Ursas) should take care of the lucifer.  You just need to blast every shivan fighter that comes out of the Lucifer so they don't bother the bombers.  This has been an easy mission for me every time I've played it.

I've just ordered everyone to take out that subsystem. Go STRAIGHT for it. Somehow, that always worked for me.
