Well, we are, despite all popular belief, still working - and we're about to reach a point where the help of the community will be required. In order to gather such help, I'm opening the recruiting process for voice actors. If you think you have a good voice at the mike, and want to help us make Machina Terra the best experience possible, this is what you're looking for!
What you need:
- Desire to spend time and effort helping MT
- Will to record the voices without disclosing the text to any other parties
- A microphone and a good sound program
How you do it:
- Record the following lines, in WAV format, settings at 22KHz, 16bit, mono.
- Don't add any kind of sound effect or background
- Send the files to [email protected], zipped
Sample 1: -sample-01.wav
Epsilon wing on station, moving to escort positions.
Sample 2: -sample-02.wav
Constantinople here, everything ready to initiate jump sequence. Wish us luck, everyone
Sample 3: -sample-03.wav
By twelve hundred hours today, the first enemy ship had breached our blockade at Polaris. The destroyer is hiding somewhere in the outskirts of the system, and may strike at any moment.
Pack all the files in a zip named -samples.zip, and mail it to the address I mentioned above, with the subject "Machina Terra - Voice Acting". If you have any preference for any kind of role, state it on the body of the mail.
Any questions, feel free to ask... :)

i might start voice acting for you people, but i dont know about how i could get those files off of my computer and emailed to you. i have a computer upstairs in my room and its good and all, but it dont have a modem or any sort of internet connection. it sucks. somehow i migh tbe able to get some stuff to you on floppys with some file transfers and all, but i dont know.
-
I might voice act :) GOOD GOD!
-
How do i get it to 16bit mono? Mines on 8bit.
-
Well, it usually is pretty clear on the recording options... but it depends on the program you're using.
-
It wasnt clear but i did it anyway. Know any good programs? I dont think the one that comes with windows cuts it.
-
I like Goldwave, that can be downloaded from www.goldwave.com :)
-
Fiquring it out now.
-
Well if you want my Asianesque voice in the campaign I might do this... :p
-
Accents are good :)
I've got a Canadian accent (one of them anyways) :)
-
Any and all accents are welcome. We need people to do the Vasudan translators too...
-
If you want to have a computer-voice to "translate" the Vesudan talk, you may want to use a program called say-it. Try to search for this program on Yahoo.com. The program is free and easy to use.
-
Yeah it comes up with 1000 useless results.
-
Im realy sorry about this. The page you need to go to is http://www.freewarefiles.com/programs.php?categoryid=9&subcategoryid=105&ProgramID=583
There you will find the analogX program sayit.
The only thing you need to do is to wirte what you want to computer to say. You can then use your mick to record that sound.
Sorry again for sending you on a wild-goose-chase....
-
Thanks for the tip, I'll check that program.

HIRING?!?!?
*drops dead*
Wow, I never thought I'd see the day. Unless you want bad quality with a New England accent sound though, I'm afraid I can't help. I wish I could though...:(
-
What the hell?!
That post above wasn't mine... I think Styxx forgot to log off my account and accidentally posted with my name. :o

I've sent you my samples, but don't expect me to speak with such awful grammar. ;)
Sid.

Sid's right, I didn't notice, but it should be:
At twelve hundred hours today, the first enemy ship breached our blockade at Polaris.
Or...
By twelve hundred hours today, the first enemy ship had breached our blockade at Polaris.
:)

Hm, ops. Updating. My bad.

Not a problem. Now, if I can just find a quiet moment, I can do that recording for you... :)
-
I think that I can manage to do some voiceacting myself. :jaw:
And I should be able to manage at least 2 accents: mine, and someone else's. :) No seriously, do you want a very posh English accent? And my accent too, of course. :p

emails sent
-
also, I want to help with music for this..

Hey Styxx...without wanting to be Mr. Depressive here...but are you sure that it is already the right time to get the voice actors?
We made a bad thing at TBP. The voice actors were recruited about months before the scripts were sent out. It lead to the point that quite some actors were gone, once the scripts were ready.
Another thing....I suggest to start voice acting, once ALL missions are done. While our scripts were sent out, one of our missions needed some restructuring in the messages...so we had to rerecords. Believe me...start this acting thing later...it WILL safe you time and headache....I have my experiences with it...others from the TBP team will confirm that...
-
I think the scripts are ready, although i may not be right.
-
We don't have all missions done, but some are - and we have lots of stuff that needs to be recorded for command briefings and cutscenes. Leaving it all to the last minute would create too large a delay, unfortunately...
-
...do you have a proper release date? I guess no...=> no reason to haste...take your time...just a ...suggestion...
-
Its better to do stuff when you can do, rather than leaving it until later when realife might take over.

You must know...I guess you handled hundreds of voice acting sessions...
-
Thousands
-
About the "Its better to do stuff when you can do"-point...the recordings of a person should be done all in one session. You will be slightly pissed once you've recorded one half of a large part and then the actor is gone. Well...I don't like two different voices for one person.
Same counts for rerecordings that are necessary if a small detail in a mission chatter has been changed.
..Styxx...that is just a warning...you will probably run into big problems that way. The voice acting is the very last thing to worry about...(that isn't true if you have made such a detailled campaign script like Skullar...but I have my doubts about that).
-
We are starting work now simply because it's work we can already do and, even if we don't have a release date, the sooner we get things done the sooner the campaign will be ready for all of you to enjoy. I don't see any problem in that, and if we run into the problems you've stated (like voice actors leaving) it will still be less work to do later if we left everything for when all the missions were done.
-
..."less" work? If a voice actor leaves after (s)he did already a big part? Sounds like the double voice thing I've mentioned before (and what I would never do). But ok...I'll see how that's gonna work. I hope it will run for ya...
-
Well, thanks for the advice. We'll run this more carefully, but we'll probably be able to keep a steady flux of work for the actors from now on...
-
Sheep is right, though it might sound like he's jumping of the deep end, hes not. It would be an idea to keep his suggestions in mind... I know what he's talking about cus I've been there and done it. It's a pain of a situation to be caught in.
-
If I just could have a micro and not that #@\|\^ french accent...

That's why i am here ;)
-
...god no, you don't need extra people for a translator voice...
-
:wtf: Hey... i am vasudan... styxx told me i'm in... I just need to lower vasudan background in sounds :)
-
well, if I get picked, I don't plan on being offline for a while :)

I don't really compose as much as mix, but yes.
-
I suppose I could add my Nova Scotian accent if you still need any more.... as soon as I find my mic that is..... :doubt:
-
This thread will remain open until we have filled all positions - so yes, if you want to send your voice samples, go ahead, there's still room for voice actors. ;)
-
Im doing them now. Can you send more than one sample voice? Cos i got other voices i could of used which might be better....
-
What parts are there?
-
We still have lots of parts open, details will be sent to the voice actors with the first batch of lines to record. :)
-
I can do pretty much any accent and have it sound realistic. Should I send the voice samples with one in each accent, or what?
Also, I have a military background and the communications and briefings in some of the user-created missions I've played are so unmilitary that they've really hurt the realism of the game. I'd be happy to offer suggestions to "militarize" the script to make it more realistic and enjoyable. I'm not talking about turning all the actors into automatons with robotic communications, just making them sound professional like real pilots or soldiers would.

I think I'll try out for voice acting. It might be fun!
-
Well, you might want some "Dego" voice from a true Italian :)
Otherwise, I have watched so many times Hunt for Red October and The Rock in english that I can now almost perfectly match Sean Connery!
Where is a good mic for my Linuxbox when I need it???
