Title: [Release] 2013 Modeling Competition Example Mission
Post by: fightermedic on October 23, 2013, 05:09:12 am
Yo, as promised i have made a little standalone mission containing all the models released for the modeling competition, and only those, although i have made a few small table changes here and there
the purpose of this thing is to show off what the comunity has done in the last months, rather than to be the most sophisticated mission ever, but it should be ok enough, i'm aware it could use a bit more chatter etc.
a few notes though:
if your music volume is set to very low, turn it up in the game settings before playing this
this mission has a lot of ships, and many of them are highly detailed or not yet finished/optimized, so you will need a somewhat fast computer to run this on max settings
naturally, as oddgrim has released asteroids and an asteroid miner, the mission is taking place in an asteroid field

Lovely mission though.

Thanks for putting this one up.  :)

This is the most... eclectic assortment of ships I've ever seen in a mission (though that was the point, of course). Also, the opening had the most epic music for escorting miners into an asteroid belt that I've ever heard. Mission-wise, you used each ship in its intended role, stitching them all together into a beautiful tapestry of mission design and explosions. And, of course, the mighty GVB Ammit was able to easily obliterate the Chakra without any Alpha 1 assistance. :p

To nitpick: the music you'd played during the drone battle finished before that section was over, so there was a stretch without any music. Also, I'd have liked to see the Europa and Castalia more up-close; as it is, they were off in the background. Also, error-wise, I got a few Malloc Failed errors while loading the mission, and the Mahal's textures looked kinda weird.

All in all, though, cool mission.

What build are you using? I'm having serious problems getting the Castalia to load.

Viewing it in-mission crashes Freespace (AVX build from the AVX thread), trying to view it in the techroom clogs up the game until I force-close it (after 20 mins of waiting). PCS2 crashes on opening the pof file as well.

Using 3.7.0. SSE2, the Castalia works just fine for me, in-game and techroom, but it also crashes PCS2. It wasn't quite finished on release, so it could still be a bit buggy.

i have no idea what could be wrong, i have never had problems with it, neither did i with the first completely barebones-textured version

thanks for the mini review lepanto!

@Dekker, sorry dude, i have no idea what you are trying to tell me with this, glad you liked the mission though ;)

Hi everyone
I also had an issue with the frame rate when I put the Castalia in game, I always have a steady 120fps, but dropped to 59fps with the installation.
I decided to make it a bit bigger in pcs2, after saving the model I noticed the frame rate improved, don`t ask me why because I have no clue.
So I thought if one save improved it maybe if I saved it again it would improve again, and it did. After 3 saves my frame rate is back at 120fps.
I also purged the bps cache on every save. If this helps anyone then I`m happy as a pig in mud.  :D

(edit) I just tried it in game again and its still 120 fps
