It's the way pilots actually talk. Actually we had to tone it down a bit as there was no way players were going to understand combat dialogue like "Three, One, tally bandits, visual, break left!" "One, Three defensive, bandit in lag pursuit!"
or like "Hound Three-One, Argus, fence check, cleared hot, confirm judy at two klicks."
Which is how pilots actually talk in combat. Plus a lot of swearing.
So what you'll end up seeing in War in Heaven is FreeSpace 2's civilian-friendly chatter spiced with just a hint of the way the military actually talks, which is an impenetrable soup of acronyms, brevity codes and bizarre slang.
