There are very few recycled FS craft in TVWP.  Most ships are new.

Will there be ****tier craft than the An00bis?

As the Anubis has laser weaponry it is a spaceborne harvester of death next to these ships. :)

These don't have lasers, and presumably ****ty guns, compared to FS1 era.

Post by: Snail on October 23, 2007, 01:17:17 pm
Say, if the Anubis wasn't armed with... Vasudan... Light Lasers... but... Some gun ****tier than that (:wtf:), would it still be better than the unification-era craft?
Title: Re: TVWP Eyecandy Thread
Post by: Cobra on October 23, 2007, 01:30:44 pm
Um. I think Nelson is trying to say that compared to FS1, the Anubis is the Shivan Scorpion when the GTA couldn't fight them on equal terms.
Title: Re: TVWP Eyecandy Thread
Post by: Snail on October 23, 2007, 01:58:26 pm
Well what I want to know is if the fastest unification-era interceptor does 50 m/s top speed and turns as slow as the Ursa...
Title: Re: TVWP Eyecandy Thread
Post by: Mustang19 on October 23, 2007, 04:50:27 pm
Enough questions for today, thank you.   ;)

Direct comparisons between speed/damage points/etc. will not get you very far. Remember that there are a lot of other technical factors, like afterburners, missile accuracy, and even targeting computers that would change a lot in the 14+ years that TVWP covers. For example, jet engines of today are hardly more powerful than they were 30 years ago, but modern aerospace has advanced a long way in other areas since then. Suffice it to say that there will be an interesting mix of varying technical gaps between FS1 and early TVWP era.

There will be no negotiation, Snail.
Title: Re: TVWP Eyecandy Thread
Post by: Admiral Nelson on October 23, 2007, 07:17:03 pm
The unification era craft are balanced against each other, and make for exciting missions.  There isn't that much value in introducing comparisons to crappy fighters from later eras -- nobody would want to fly a Nate in WWII, but it would easily tear up the best WWI fighters you could care to name.
Title: Re: TVWP Eyecandy Thread
Post by: Snail on October 24, 2007, 01:34:14 pm
No, what I'm asking is if ships turn slowly and move slowly. Nothing to do with later ships. I ask this because I want to know if its hard to move between waypoints which are far away from each other, and if ships are hard to turn.
Title: Re: TVWP Eyecandy Thread
Post by: Mustang19 on October 24, 2007, 01:53:48 pm
TVWP is not waypoint-based. It's similar to normal FS2 combat, simply without fighter jump drives. The carriers do most of the moving so that you don't have to reach some waypoint 20k away.

As for your other questions, all I can say is that the TVWP ships have been balanced for playability foremost, and many of our battles are more intense than what you'd find in standard FreeSpace, with as wide a slew of weapon choices as any mod, and no shields to save you when you screw up. The ships will inevitably be more challenging to fly and operate compared to the more advanced FS2 era stuff.
Title: Re: TVWP Eyecandy Thread
Post by: Snail on October 24, 2007, 02:19:55 pm
So like the early days of air combat, where only 1 in every 5066 pilots return home?
Title: Re: TVWP Eyecandy Thread
Post by: Mustang19 on October 25, 2007, 10:38:52 am
Rather, in air combat the majority of pilots never even encounter the enemy. But if you mean FreeSpace combat, with wingman dying left and right, then TVWP is still the same game. However, if you're talking about the handling problems, it's very hard to die in FreeSpace from anything other than combat.

I don't think the name is FSish. Without considering the Watchdog, everything has a Mythological name. I have discussed this before.

We know it. What about using both destroyers?

I don't think the name is FSish. Without considering the Watchdog, everything has a Mythological name. I have discussed this before.

This is because it was not built by the GTA. It was built by the United Nations of Earth (UNE). I think they use a different naming convention.

The Reliant is good enough by itself.

Well there is now a HTL Zagreus if you're interested at all... Though you probably know this.

I suppose this belongs in the FAQ thread, but the fact that the last post in that thread was in 2005 "discouraged" me from posting there. I have a question.

What kind of natural phenomenon are we talking about?

A lot of the info on that website is pretty old, as the news articles suggest.

All enemy pilots are of 100% natural origin.  No clones, cyborgs, robots or mad computers were used.  Enemy pilots include no hidden additives, no hidden chemicals, no hidden preservatives, no artificial colors, no trans fats and no corn syrup.

But the packaging isn't made from environmentally safe material (nor is it 100% safe to humans either).

Lightspeed created the textures ages ago.  The model was by Swamp_Thing.  Lightspeed  appears to have noted the resemblance, as the name of the texture is 'viper.tga'. :).  Resemblance is much less from above.  I am here showing off our spiffy new normal maps from freespaceking. :)

simple question: will the GTF angel be in this MOD? It was depicted as being there by freespace (the father of the valkyrie).
Title: Re: TVWP Eyecandy Thread
Post by: Admiral Nelson on December 07, 2007, 08:22:03 am
Eventually it will,  Chapter 1 is set well before the advent of the Angel.  Chapter 2 would likely contain the father of the Angel, the Phoenix.
Title: Re: TVWP Eyecandy Thread
Post by: Snail on December 07, 2007, 08:24:37 am
So the Phoenix is the grand-father of the Valkyrie? Is the Shrike the father of the Phoenix, in effect making it the great-grand-father of the Valkyrie?

There isn't really a direct analogue to the Angel / Valkyrie in Chapter 1.

Actually, we're incredibly close to releasing something.  Unfortunately, everybody is doing something else at the moment.

Well, having looked through my modeling folder, and seeing the meshes that I either made or upgraded for this project, I was just curious if theyre even being used.  Particularly the ones that Lightspeed textured. Im looking at the one now and while the mesh is a little crude by my more recent standards (Im rusty, but I have been trying my hand at modeling again, just not for FS specifically), the mapping is amazing on it.  I'd hate for it to go to waste.

(Coincidentally, I see that Lightspeed is still a member, despite being inactive since 2005, and yet I've gotten the boot. Nice.  :doubt: )
