Re: FIRST BIOSHOCK FOOTAGE!
It revolves around a group of people who split off from society to build their own utopia; an underwater city. They built it in the 30's, so everything is quite obviously 30's-style American. Clothing, shops, music, etc. Except, with the whole plasmid and "Adam" thing. At least, that's the impression I got from the movie.

Re: FIRST BIOSHOCK FOOTAGE!
I waited for it to load the first minute and a half, but it was just the same thing, some FPS view looking around. I grew impatient and closed it. Guess I'll just have to take everyone's word for it.

Re: FIRST BIOSHOCK FOOTAGE!
Xbox demo. meh.  I'll be intrigued when I see a PC demo.  Hopefully it'll blow my pants off like SS2 did.
After watching the whole thing, it feels like System Shock 2 v2.0 in Art Deco.  There's cameras, security stations, containers to search, even the damn security turrets make it look and feel like SS2.  I hope the PC version has a mouse-interface for choosing stuff like when searching bodies and containers for items, then it'll really feel familiar.

Has no-one seen the 15 minute PC gameplay walkthrough, then?

Re: FIRST BIOSHOCK FOOTAGE!
There's a PC walkthrough?

It doesn't really matter, because both versions will be identical apart from control, which you can't see in a video anyway.

Re: FIRST BIOSHOCK FOOTAGE!
The gameplay shown is from a months-old, hastily-assembled E3 demo build. The UI has been completely rebuilt since then and everything else has been significantly improved. This is straight from Ken Levine, the producer of BioShock (and System Shock 2).

The other video on that site (tagged "Scary stuff") is a just-released teaser trailer. It is NOT in-game footage, though the trailer does use actual game assets.

Totally stupid n00b question here: would I be correct in assuming Bioshock to be the latest sequel to the System Shock series?

Re: FIRST BIOSHOCK FOOTAGE!
Yea, Bioshock looks pretty good as an FPS action-wise, but the storyline is terrible. How many FPSs have been made that involve either the Nazis or some public disturbance in a hotel?

yep

Re: FIRST BIOSHOCK FOOTAGE!
Everything spartan said is wrong. BioShock does NOT involve Nazis (anymore), and it is NOT part of the System Shock series.

It is, however, being developed by many of the same people who worked on SS2.

Just snag and view the teaser trailer here: http://www.xboxyde.com/leech_3113_1_en.html

1. I never said it had Nazis in it, I just said that it was a cliche that's WAY overused.

2. Essentially, though it's not really part of the System shock series, it's the "spiritual successor" of the series. I've read the PCGamer exclusive, and it's creepy....really........ really........ creepy....

Basically, the most important resource in Rapture (the underwater city) is a substance called Adam, that allows people to easily rewrite their DNA and give themselves all sorts of abilities. **** happens, and the natural sources of Adam are used up or destroyed. So now the only source of Adam is from the dead bodies of people who've used it. The little girls have been genetically modified to seek out, extract, and internally process Adam back into a reusable form. This makes the little girls extremely attractive targets, since they're basically full of Adam. Because of this, they're always guarded by the big guys in the diving suits.

So this pretty much explains the events in the teaser video.
