Nice :D

But dare I ask...

How many maps does it use ... how  much map is shared by multiple parts of the fighter... :nervous:

Re: Federal Navy revision project
it'll use only 2 20482 maps. everything currently textured is one map, the other will eliminate the hideous white cockpit and canopy frame and map the cpit interior parts and debris. currently the wings, engines and anything that can be mirrored or is duplicated share map space. for the most part its built like it was cut down the middle and the halves mirrored. AO bake should not be to much of a pill i think/hope :nervous:. may not need to AO bake though as I'm starting to shade and illuminate (glow map) things by hand, I'm still working on my proficiency with that.

Me likes  , could you show a wire frame view (maybe also compared to the old one)?

Why not make a single 2kx4k map? It doesn't make much difference but I'm always curious why people don't do this.
Oh guys, use that [ url ][ img ][ /img ][ /url ] :/

Re: Federal Navy revision project
It's better to make them square. Honestly, I forget why exactly. It has to do with how video cards handle textures or it helps with compatibility or something. 'Course I might be totally wrong though...

EDIT: square and powers of two, that is.

Re: Federal Navy revision project
Powers of two are required for DDS mipmaps, but that is a totally separate point from the square vs non-square issue.

Re: Federal Navy revision project
Ye gods that's a sexy beast. The Uhlan was always my go-to fighter in WiH...it's missing reverse thrust but it's a lot harder to hit than the Kent; and yet, it was always my least favorite of the Fed fighters, looks-wise.

So much for that.

In the interests of not just posting to say, "Hurr it looks good," does anyone else think the thruster nozzles always looked a bit too small on the Uhlan? I like the design, I just don't think they look big enough for the ship.

Re: Federal Navy revision project
Well, it doesn't need huge thrusters given its size (compared to both the Uriel and the Kent) and its top speed (compared to the Kent).

Hell yeah

Out of curiosity, why do you never model a pilot in your cockpits?

I...uhhh...mmmm, cant model people very well yet. i've got a prototype i'll tinker with every once in a while, still not happy with it yet. by the end of the fighter upgrade run i should have one though.

Re: Federal Navy revision project
I'd have to see it with some more lighting or something; right now it's really hard to make out different sections of the craft; the extra wings and intakes around the rear of the body all blend together in a mass. Some texture variation would really help.
