Yeah yeah, scan me some o' them minerals dawg!
If you have played Mass Effect 2, I suspect you will agree this tune is awesome? :)

All of Jack Wall's music is good in the BioWare titles he's worked on (ME/ME2 and Jade Empire).

On my first playthrough, Uncharted Worlds was the only track I outright recognised, but I've bought the soundtrack off iTunes now, and listening to it outside of the game made me realise just what a good job he's done here - the music didn't stick out at all, and just fitted perfectly in with the game, subtly enhancing every moment.

Some people didn't like the harder tone of the music compared to the softer, more Vangelis-like tones of Me1, but I think Wall pitched it perfectly, especially with The Illusive Man.

It seemed to me like the ME2 soundtrack was trying to be more dramatic, but in the process lost some of its retro-tastic electronica goodness that i liked about ME1.  Overall, I think ME1 appeals more to nerdy folks like myself, while ME2 is designed to appeal more to the 'masses' with its over-sex'd characters (miranda and jack), more shooter-based gameplay, and less sci-fi (much more action/adventure) based story.

Also, they had to throw in Baldur's Gate 2 references to make the nerds and long-time fans feel less alienated.

Afterlife plays the best music. Dodgy barstaff though. . .

It's called Callista, by Saki Kaska.

If you mean downstairs Afterlife, that's supposedly a remix of it, but I've tried listening to them in sequence and I honestly don't think it's the song I've been told it is.

It seemed to me like the ME2 soundtrack was trying to be more dramatic, but in the process lost some of its retro-tastic electronica goodness that i liked about ME1.

You must have been playing a really different ME1 since...well, what? You're talking about Uplink, maybe Virmire Ride too? That's nowhere near the whole soundtrack. The music of the game you're most likely to notice, Spectre Induction and Uncharted Worlds, either isn't that, or came back for the sequel.

And when you get right down it, this is program music. It's written for something, supposed to be evocative. ME1's music was only evocative or appropriate on big moments. ME2's is nearly all the time. You can go "the changed it to be accessible whaaaaa" like you're Nuke or something but the whole point of the game soundtrack is that it should be accessible and evocative to the maximum number of people who play it.
