the other day i dusted off my stick and loaded my ch profile for mwll, i updated the install to the current version and i proceeded to put gauss shell to cockpit. so go dig out that unused copy of crysis wars you got with warhead, and go get the installer from here (http://www.mwlldownload.com/). and when we get enough mechwarriors, treadheads, and fliers, we can see what kind of damage we can do. just to clairify you need crysis wars. maybe we can do one with the free version of mech4 if we dont get the players, ive always wanted to try that one.
tldr: big stompy mech action
I think someone suggested "Hard Lighters" as a name for a mercenary unit if we were to ever get a group together for MWO. So how about "Clan Hard Lighters"?
so it looks like our clan has a name. simple and to the point. i appended a =CHL= prefix to my name, which should help us identify eachother on the servers.
Clan Hard Lighters sibko roster:
Nuke
Mechtuta
The E
NGTM-1R
Scourge of Ages
Ravenholme
SpardaSon21
Mikes
MR_T3D
MatthTheGeek
-
i actually...might get in on this
-
you will hince forth be known as mechttutta
i started a sibko roster. give me an aff if you want in.*
*my clanspeak needs work

You have to actually install and play the game.

Oh. :blah: Well maybe next time.
-
I'm...kind of interested, but I don't have Crysis, and I haven't really done any MP gaming in anything before. This desktop computer wouldn't run it too well anyway. But I might buy a copy as the maximum edition is quite cheap, and see how it runs on my other system.
-
il be on huntress or whatever server is full in the mean time. i think i go by lordnothing (or some variation of "royalty/leadership role".."something to do with nihilism").
-
May be able to jump in if this turns into a MW4 play, though it'll be fun getting it going on Win7 (Wasn't exactly simple, last time I tried). Don't own crysis though, so I'm out of MWLL.
-
MW4 multiplayer is nowhere near as fun as MWLL, you are missing out.
-
Gonna give this a shot as well.

I imagine. I'm just basically broke atm, due to car repairs and other expenses lately. Maybe next month I'll have some to spare, but not right now.

Do you just need the software, or a whole new rig? I could buy it for you on Steam.
-
I would consider this, I've always wanted to try LL, but alas I can't buy the game at this moment. Maybe next week when the new credit card arrives.
-
This looks interesting. Too bad my comp doesn't get along very well with crysis.
-
added the e. anyway had some joystick trouble, fixed it, and then had my inner sphere ass handed to be by a bunch of clanners. though i was in the #2 slot in terms of rank and points. some of these die hard mech players are tough. they were using terrain well and had spot on marksmanship. i spent most of the game trying to get the light mechs to narc properly so i could land vollies of lrms (i was in the quad lrm20 varient of the vulture for most of the game) without the need for lock. they were also hiding behind rocks before my missiles got there. rather annoying.
-
Eh, I'll provisionally sign up but it'll be at least a week before I can participate.
Waitaminute, what Clan are we?
-
clan snuffelufagus
clan supernova shivan
clan dope zodfish
really im not the person who should be naming things
-
I am cool with that, sibkin.
-
Clan Demented Fuzzy Shivan
-
I like Supernova Shivan, but that's just me.
I'll just be watching this war from the sidelines. I've got enough on my plate right now, though I've always wanted to try out LL.
-
If I had Crysis Wars, I would definitely play with you guys. I know, I could grab the Maximum Edition for like $20, but I have limited funds ATM.

Just the software, as my computer was a new build a couple years ago when I started Uni and is still holding up pretty well; but I wouldn't feel right having someone buy me a copy when I'm obviously not the only person here with money issues. Still be fun to watch the playthrough, and maybe I can get in on round 2 sometime.
-
I am downloading the thing as we type. I will attempt to join any matches available or whatever, but I can't promise any kind of schedule or competence on my part. Any that I do join will be recorded, if I remember to start the thing...

-
I am down with that. My profile name is The_E.
-
i guess that works. id append that to my profile name but im not sure if thats easy to change.
-
I already registered the name 'bigchunk1' on MWO. We're guna make a kickass lance.
I'm pretty excited about it after seeing recent videos.
Edit: MWLL looks great but I don't have crysis. I like the idea of tank vs mech, even if it's one sided.
-
yea it was a pain in the ass process but im now =CHL=Nuke. need to test my controls though, theyre kind of iffy. i actually have all the default buttons mapped in my ch profile, but axis setup is more complicated than it needs to be, and i had to merge my sticks into a virtual stick. but it seems that you just need to copy a few files from one profile to another. i havent tested it yet. i tried playing this morning but i joined a solaris arena server, left the mech bay in an uller, proceded to destroy the first mech i saw, and got kicked for it, aparently one of those servers where winning or having fun is against the rules :D.
op updated.

I'm really glad that my Hard Lighters suggestion is getting a lot of mileage here and there :D
And I might get in on this when my exams are done in two weeks.
-
Hmmm. Crysis Warhead or the Maximum Edition for $10 more. Decisions, decisions.
EDIT: Bought the Maximum Edition on Steam. Crysis Wars downloading now.
EDIT2: So, are we actually going to try and play together sometime?
-
i found my copy (came with warhead) in a bargain bin like 2 or 3 years ago. i played warhead and never touched crisis wars. it was really cheap and i couldn't pass it up, i think it was $19.99 or something like that, that looks about the same as steam, but you might find better if you rummage around the bargain bins at your local electronics store.
anyway we've got 7 people so far. thats enough for a star (or lance for you innersphere freebirth dogs). we just need to set a time/server. we would need a lot more players to make our own server work out. typical games have 20+ players. im also not in a good geographic location, and dont really have a fast connection (though i do have my old c2q rig which would make a good dedicated server). im also not sure if you can host and play on the same license (especially on 2 different computers simultaneously), il have to look at it. were probibly better off using one of the existing servers.
as for the time, i can play whenever (im on the servers a lot lately).
*edit* i played around with dedicated server and it seems i can run it on this machine just fine. will try the other machine later.
*edit2* let me remind you of how annoying good web installers are at wasting bandwidth. dispite having 4 of the 6 required update files, it still had to download 3 of them to update. fortunately the big 1.4gb one worked, because that would have pissed me off and wasted 7% of my transfer cap. anyway will see if the dedicated server works without invalidating my license.
-
I propose that none of the people posting in this thread use vulgar freebirth contractions.
With that out of the way, let us assemble ten trueborn so we can utilize a full binary of BattleMechs.
-
That did not work. Crysis Wars kept giving me bull**** about an invalid CD-key.
-
crysis wars has this annoying thing where it will not tell you that your cd key is wrong. i mistyped it by one letter. and usually that would raise some kind of error message. but it didnt. aparently the fix was to go into crysis wars (w/o mod) and try to join a server, where you are prompted to type in the cd key. thats how i fixed mine. i think i read something about an issue with steam versions and that theres a workaround for it.

-
Ah, thank you Nuke. That fixed it!
-
Aye, I had some serious problems trying to connect to a MWLL game. Tried a number of things, including setting the key by joining a punkbuster Crysis Wars server, editing that file to include the CD key, but finally what fixed it was setting the game back to 32 bit mode. Weird.
-
Today in the Solaris Arena we lost the following units in glorious battle:
3 Demolishers to enemy fire
2 Demolishers to overturn
4 Demolishers to got stuck in trees
-
One of the really cool things about this game is that the large territory control game types allow actual Battletech tactics to work in a way that previous Mechwarrior games haven't really permitted. The large maps make mobility and positioning important; the information warfare game is actually fleshed out, and scouts are important; missile boats can set up on ridgelines in order to volley on targets or work with TAG beacons; and the threat of VTOLs and aerospace means that light autocannon anti-aircraft platforms like the Mauler are suddenly really important.
I played a bit of territory control today and placed in the top 3 on my team just shooting LRM-10s from a ridgeline in my Owens.
-
i wasnt able to get in on the action, i played this morning and a little just now, i thought i saw spardason in a score list though so i guess i just caught the end of it. but not any good games at all today. just a whole lot of base camping and seriously uneven teams.
-
Very intriguing... I may wrestle with renaming my profile, when there s a gap in my work schedule.
Would give everyone I may have annoyed on HLP in the past a chance at returning some friendly fire haha :)
-
i think you can just edit one of the xml files, profile.xml, you can change your name without swapping all your mappings, weapon groupings, etc.
-
I'm in now.
=CHL= MR T3D
-
I am preeeetty bad at aerospace
-
So, I started yesterday. Quite enjoyed it so far, although with current balancing the only viable tactics tend to be long-range camping. VTOLs and Aerospace could probably be pretty deadly too if default controls didn't suck ass and if their Actionmap thingy could actually remap keys and axises at all, like it's supposed to be designed for.
-
Thanks to Nuke's donation I got a sweet fighter and had a badass aerospace game strafing everything to death. that was pretty ****ing cool
-
i got on today, saw battuta. but i got to stop for the duration of the grilling weather. might be on again in a couple hours if i dont go back to my electronics project.
my issue with aerospace is the wonky physics. coming from a flight sim background, i expect low turn rates at high speed, and high turn rates near stall speed. but it seems like its backwards. you shouldn't be able to do a snap turn at full throttle, but you can, and i dont expect to loose control at safe landing speed. i die every other landing attempt, your better off ejecting over a base, grabbing a manpack ppc, and shoot things till you die. that way you can actually build income as opposed to having massive demotions from suicides.
-
Nah you get used to it. I got to go on some pretty tight ASF runs, landing and rearming/repairing. Dive bombing seems to be the only way to play it in the lighter fighters, but once you get a Gauss Shiva you can make strafing runs.
-
granted its better physics than you see in a lot of fps games' aircraft.
-
OKAY ASSBUTTS
Tonight at 5:00 EST The_E and I will be stomping around/exploding. Please join us, we'll use Skype for more efficient WHERE ARE YOU i'm in e5 WHAT'S HAPPENING i died a fafnir OKAY I'M COMING no a fafnir WHAT a fafnir ****
Assemble on IRC
e: Really I cannot stress how much fun this game is when things are going well for you. It's probably the best MechWarrior game, and it's also one of the best Battlefield games ever made! The key to getting into the assault class by the end of the match is DO NOT DIE. Play conservatively, don't overextend, stick with your lancemates/keep altitude if you're in an ASF. Dying really ****s you over in terms of point earnings.
e2: atms are the ****
-
I should be able to drop in around 7:30 EST tonight and throw some gauss around.
-
unless i did my maths wrong that translates to 2pm, so il be there. if we get the entire roster we may need to find a server that isnt quite full. huntress has the best map rotation, but they have been having issues with the server lately, and its always fullish when its up. we may need to load up on one of the other servers.
i need to work on my survivability. i started ejecting when my ct or head are in the red. yesterday i got 2 kills right off in a ****ty recon mech (3 if you count the short range ppc blast that also killed me, but took out the other quy as well due to heating) wait that was a different mech, meh. it was the ****. my fighting style employs a fair amount of reckless abandon, it gets me kills, after all i didnt strap into a mech to hide behind hills all day. but its something i need to work on. also never underestimate the income from sitting in a c3 mech for a few minutes, especially early on, it pays off to avoid the enemy in this case.
-
Take some screens of your badass selves so we may drool over them.
-
Of all the times for the server to take a total ****. 20 minutes downloading this map :negative:
-
i must complement your flying skills, you seem to have it down pretty good. many a time i saw you swoop down in a shiva followed by a 'battuta killed noob name here' message :D
-
This isn't a LP at all!
-
You're right. Nuke, remove the colon from the title and everything will be fine.
-
colon removed, replaced with ppc, you may now fart glowy blue hot stuff.
-

I did okay points wise (top 3 I think) but slammed into the ground an embarrassing number of times, all of which counted as suicides. I've got to second some of your frustration with landing - now that I've got the actual process of landing pretty well okay, it turns out that taxiing is incredibly lethal. I kept hitting rocks on the runway (and exploding) or brushing a wing on the hangar wall (and exploding). It seems like none of the ASFs have any kind of ground reverse, so you can't back into a hangar to repair, and can't turn around if you go in nose first without tipping a wing (and exploding).
There are also rocks on the runway on one of the maps, which just strikes me as incredibly mean. :(
Hahaha it was awesome, there was someone flipping out on one of the servers (yesterday, I think): "There's this guy called nuke and every time his mech explodes it just goes completely nuclear!"
-
If you folks are running voice comms, may I suggest Mumble as an alternative to Skype?
-
i love flying the vtols, i like the way they handle and are by far easier to land than the asfs. you can even land them in bases on terrain control maps, so you can rapidly take unwatched bases. also the fact that a lot of them are equipped with bap and c3, they can provide some serious radar coverage. i just wish they had higher level vtols. the same 6 hawkmoths get old. you dont get a lot of kills with it either, your mostly just a distraction for the mechs on the ground, you can fire popshots all day. the elrm varient allows you to hit most mechs with impunity, and the narc varient comes in handy to in a recon support role. id love an assault varient, but im not sure if they are gonna add any in the future. i take one out either early on or if i join mid-game.
-
well i went to play mwll last night and there was a huge update. you now team dependant loadout. clan gets clan mechs and vehicles is gets is mechs and vehicles. theyve added a bunch of mechs to fill all the holes. anyway we should see about getting the clan back together for some more big stompy mech action.
-
Oooooooh.
-
Oh yes, Puretech mode is fun, I just love cutting off clan heavy mech weapons using the Owens.
-
Looks...interesting...yes
-
the clan vtol is an awesome beast. i also like the rifleman, finally an aa mech so you dont need to get a tank to shoot down all the flying things, its also effective against other mechs.
