Title: My Forced Entry playthrough (UPDATED)
Post by: el_magnifico on April 27, 2010, 12:58:02 pm
While learning how to make screen recordings, I recorded a Forced Entry playthrough. Graphic detail was considerably lowered, and the sound has some annoying glitches and it's a bit out of sync. But, hey! it's my first video. ;)

I hope you enjoy it, and respectful, constructive criticism is always welcome (and needed :p ).

Part 1 (just the briefings and loadout, nothing interesting): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBKSqNlkd40 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBKSqNlkd40)
Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfX1gZhsd3Q (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfX1gZhsd3Q)
Part 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tl9KHlSdvfY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tl9KHlSdvfY)

UPDATE: Recorded another playthrough. This time flying a Kulas, in medium difficulty. I hope you enjoy it.

(I just skipped the briefings this time)

Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4Av7HzK8mU (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4Av7HzK8mU)
Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEy01_OKxuI (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEy01_OKxuI)

I have to say, flying the Kulas was quite challenging for me. I'm really not used to light craft.
Somehow, it seems like the shockwaves took down the SReds on the Ravana. I wish that happened more often.

Whoa... You used the Zeus?

...Never saw that one coming.  :)

Cool.  Good to hear my lines in-game.  You didn't trigger all of them, but hey, you played on Easy.   :D

Seems a few lines get cut off, though.

If you try to do that on medium with Fury's AI the Ravana will splatter you all over the landscape. And even if you escape her, the Basilisks are probably going to eat you alive.
And you really should destroy the beam turret of the Raskael (or somesuch - the Cain). With the fully loaded Zeus you can easily spare the one Treb it takes.

You might also want to try the 3.6.12 "black market" bonus pack. With the improved AI and gliding BP is even more fun  ;)

I did it second try (Died the first time) on medium with the black market pack, and I also flew a Zeus. Adroit management of power levels and shield sectors got me through (That and I knew the Ravana was coming)

What I meant was flying that close to the Ravana to get the upper, smaller beams in a bomber, not what was coming before.
I tried to do that twice in an Aurora. The first time I was shredded in no time, the second I managed to limp away with less than 10% hull and the Basilisks finished me off.

With the range of the Trebs it isn't really necessary to go that close, so I rather stay my distance from the Ravana. Shield sector management will only get you so far when flak is exploding all around you...

Ah, sorry, I misinterpreted your remark, I do apologise.

Yeah, getting that close isn't a terribly good idea.

Why not? I love the Zeus. :D Besides, you're supposed to destroy a lot of turrets on capships, so a strike bomber is the natural option. And if someone in the BP team put the Zeus there, it is reasonable to assume the mission was tested on a Zeus.

You didn't trigger all of them
That's because I escorted you to the portal unscratched. But I can leave you without cover if you so wish. :p

Thanks for your comment on youtube. You did an excellent job with the Duke. But then again, all the voice actors did.

Actually, that's true. Flak is deadly when you're flying a bomber. I never get that close to the Ravana in medium difficulty.

I disagree. I have always ignored the Razakel, and I have yet to run into any trouble by doing so. My reasoning has always been, "It's a lame Cain-class cruiser against a next-generation corvette, so why bother?". So far, it has worked.

However, I have to admit I never played Forced Entry on Medium after the update (the Director's Cut), so, if the mission was rebalanced, I'll have to try it again.

You might also want to try the 3.6.12 "black market" bonus pack. With the improved AI and gliding BP is even more fun  ;)
Gliding? No thanks. I'm flying only with a cluttered notebook keyboard. I'm not even using the mouse. So the controls are already quite uncomfortable to add more things to them.

I also flew a Zeus.
I knew I wasn't the only pilot doing Forced Entry on a Zeus.

Thanks for the feedback gentlemen.

Badass. I actually sort of like the Kulas. Feels very...pure. Problem is its weapons subsystem constantly seems to get shot off.

Every time I watch one of your walkthroughs YouTube changed the volume controll.... First the move it from right to left, then they change it opening upwards to opening sidewards...
I wonder what they'll do the next time you make a video

I guess I am a bit biased towards the Labouchere, since it has my voice ;)

I quite like the Kulas myself (although I favor the Myrmidon as a more capable version of it).  I usually give it to my wingmen so that they'd have the four primary guns to work with.

It paid dividends at 1:11 here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xu_YZhDJVGQ) with the Big Damn Heroes moment =)
