How to change LOD / viewing distance of asteroids
I' ve been searching the wiki but found no answer to this:
is there (preferrably a simple) way to increase the distance before items (especially asteroids) reduce their LOD or maybe just remove the lower levels?
The new asteroids look great but they loose their apeal way too soon. I can see the reason for it with lots of items to keep the frame rate up but my frame rate being still way up at 60 I feel my machine could handle a  little more stress...

Open the vp, copy the asteroids.tbl and open it in a texteditor.
There is a line:

$Detail distance:   (0, 30, 80, 150)

Edit it, and save the file as asteroidsadv.tbm abd put it in a mod folder.

The lods for ships are in the ships.tbl.

Don't forget: always use .tbm's. Check the wiki for more details on how to use and how to name 'em.

Its in root_fs2.vp
And you can't use a TBM for asteroids. Just extract asteroids.tbl and edit it.
