Could you give it a bit more color?....it's a bit purple.

Aside the color I have to agree with everyone that your versions are way better than the original.

it's supposed to be purple. I detest that pink colour on the original

[V] optimized the size and quality of their works for average machines of those times they began making FreeSpace. Much time passed since that, and 200MHz Celerons became 2GHz Pentiums. :)
So LS has no need to optimzed to, and test those on average level machines. This 32-bit addition made him a great opportunity to valualize[I doubt a word like this exists :)] his skills at Photoshop.

I say let's enjoy the newest ones!

you also forgot the engine only supported 8-bit, whereas I can make full use of 24-bit, and once it's supported I can make that 32-bit with transparency so the box bug will be gone and they will blend okay again (even if planets come last in the background editor :) ).

IIRC that one is actually Jupiter - if the resolution high enough you're ought to see a little halo.

BTW Jupiter is smg. pinkish yellow.

well, here is a pretty big picture of jupiter, and there doesn't seem to be any noticable atmosphere halo. http://www.seds.org/pub/images/planets/jupiter/jupiter.jpg

Um. See all those brown stripey bits? They're the atmosphere.

jupiter is not purple, and jupiter is definately not in capella / aldebaran / vasuda, you get the idea. It's just a nice background for a space sim, doesnt really have to do with jupiter even though they used an edited jupiter as an image ;)

I still havent really decided. One thing will be animated / 32-bit glowmaps for the ships (32-bit where no animation is neccessary, and if i need transparency ;7 ) ; the other thing will be weapon effects such as laser glows and bitmaps, missile trails, etc.

And then again, there was something in my mind about high res 32-bit ship textures. ;)

Meh.... 32-bit glowmaps? That's just pointless...

I've tried doing higher res ship textures, they don't look all that much better if they are noticeable at all.

But then again PSP8 can't save in 32-bit....it can save in "32-bit" (16.7mil colors).

Have you EVER tried having a nephtys support ship there with activated glow maps, and approached the side of it up to about 5 metres?

i know, which is precisely why it shouldn't have the atmosphere halo.

That doesn't need to be 32-bit, just the textures need to be remade, because they are too small. And that holds true for a few ships. Sekhmat, Bakha, Tuaret, Serapis... they could have all been done in a higher res.

It's funny how FS1 had higher res maps with more detail, than the 'more powerful' FS2... :doubt:

I've only had one problem with your planets Lightspeed. Normally I get framerates ~60 fps, but when I face your planets, they go down to ~20/30 fps. Couple that with some loss due to combat and it's almost unplayable.
