Well here we go, texturing has begun! An early WIP of a model by Axem and texture by me
(http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/6572/nulambda01.jpg)
-
nice, I always did like the lambda (and its gamma variant) and that's looking good so far
-
Gamma variant?
Gamma-class shuttle (and it's assault transport variant) looks nothing like Lambda.
Maybe you meant the Sentinel: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Sentinel-class_landing_craft
Or Theta-class: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Theta-class_T-2c_shuttle
-
sorry yes the sentinel, could have sworn it was the gamma
-
There's also this: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Delta-class_JV-7_escort_shuttle *shudder*
-
Yeah, for a second, I thought Headdie might have been referring to the Escort Shuttle, but no matter...
Lastly, from the FotG renders page, I was aware that this was a WIP, but it really seems that it was by no means an early WIP:
http://swc.fs2downloads.com/sshot.php?subdir=Support_Trans/Shuttle/
Regardless, great stuff, Brand and Axem.
:D
-
Funk yeah. Seriously, with what's currently WIP or completed right now, I can make my pre-Yavin minicampampaign, even without the ISD. So awesome to see some more FRED-useful ships being churned out, especially at such high quality as this and the DX-9. Good work to all concerned. :)
-
please tell me you also plan to make the sentinel

Forget the heavy machinery, where's my Assault Gunboat?
-
Just need to get this jazz converted now :)
-

...again. Shouldn't be much work this time, though, since the existing conversion work can easily be ported to this one.
-
The sentinel is likely going to make it in at some point. The gunboat, on the other hand, is a very very low priority for us. It really doesn't fit the imperial design ethos, hence why it's almost never been used outside of the games. I'm not 100% ruling it out as a later inclusion, but there are other ships to go in-game which are much more useful while still fitting in with the Imperial style of things.
-
Pfft. I love gunz. And we did have someone previously who had started it, too bad that never got finished.

so We'll be seeing the TIE/?? (bomber/shuttle) soon then?
because the empire sure needs a "heavy fighter" or something with warheads
-
Great!

No, it doesn't appear outside the games because it got supplanted by the Defender and Advanced TIE models, which are significantly more awesome and therefore get more showtime...and because when you get right down to it, it's basically a Rebel fighter wearing an Imperial suit in capablities.
It was always meant to be a niche design for the Imperials, a long-range scout/assault ship, but then TIE Fighter went crazy with things that could fill that role. The poor Star Wing is a victim of being So Last Season.
-
/me understands the trope but does not approve...
:P
I'd throw in that, before getting back on topic, that the Assault Gunboat fits in just about as well as the other Cygnus-designed vessels in the SW-verse. But, indeed, there's more high-priority designs to attend to.
On topic, Brand, when will the FotG pages be updated with the new models/model information?
-
Soon as I get around to it :P
-
And another WIP update:

looking good

And another WIP update:
Nice detailing again
Isn't it supposed to be more grey though? Seems very bright to me.
-
Seems like it just rolled off the Imperial construction line. As in like some WIPs it needs to be a little less clean. Rough edges, dented fenders, what this ship needs is class!
Keep up the amazing work!
-
Isn't dirtying up the last step in a new models life (apart from getting ingame of course)?
So have some patience people.
-
Yep, he did say it's a wip update. For the less astute, that usually means not finished yet.
-
Yeah, making it dirty is the last thing I do.
-
Now we need some speederbikes, one half-finished Deathstar, one shield generator, and several Ewoks and voila, Ep VI! :D
Great job on the shuttle.
-

In this case though, the grey he's talking about isn't dirt I don't think, but probably likely due to lighting conditions in the filming. The studio model itself is a lighter shade like this, so proper mission lighting settings should give the effect you're remembering.

Great job on the shuttle.
- Ewoks + Wookie Slave Camp = Much Better VI
-
Yeah, the filming models were all rather bright, it really just depends on the lighting
for example

Yeah, so true. That'd be something for a re-imagined Star Wars. :nervous:
The pics Brand-X posted, makes me want to watch the two trilogys again.

Ontopic
Can we has a shot of the shuttle, showing the Ventral side of the Shuttle?
-

Oh, hmm, I see. Carry on.

Soon, soon

Thanks for the quick reply. Impressive.[/Vader]

Every once in awhile I start to think that Star Wars was a part of my youth that I don't need anymore, and that Lucas has with his prequels destroyed the part of me that loved those movies and the whole universe that so captured my imagination.
And then I log in to these forums and see the amazing work you guys are putting together and I'm rushed back to the same heart-pounding excitement that makes me crave flying starfighters and transport myself into the greatest fantasy world ever made.
Thank you for rekindling such emotions for me. Your work is amazing and I look forward to the day I can see all these models in action on my own computer.
-
Again, as a reminder - The base model is Axem's. Don't froget to credit and thank him while you laud Brand's beautiful texture work.
That said, nice textures/(geometry tweaking?), Brand.
;)
-
Yeah, I just unwrapped it, did a few geometry tweaks and am doing the texture. Axem did the model itself.
-
Hence why I said "you guys" instead of individually lauding Brand's work. This is quite the collaborative achievement.
-
Yeah, not so sound like an arse, but I think I heard that someone has also set up the aft turret, firepoints, thrusters, subsystems, shield mesh, made an engine sound, a radar icon, a way of opening/closing the wings, etc... :D
-
Yes, and Zoo gets credit for all the conversion work and everything surrounding the Lambda that isn't modeling it or texturing it
-
Yup, zookeeper has become our conversion/model setup goto guy, so that's gonna start going without saying after a while. We'll just know he's awesome :)
-
And another WIP. Same camera angle so the curious can flip back and forth between images to see the changes =)
-
So I don't suppose we get to float in space after being shot out of our snubfighter, nervously waiting to see if the approaching SAR shuttle has the Imp Purple Gear or the Red Rebel Bird on the bottom? :D
-
Looks great!

Looks great
I know it's still WIP, but i'd like to know what's the difference in polycount between the two renders.
-
None, the details you see are doing procedurally via a displacement texture. In other words, highly advanced normal maps
-
They're like normal maps, but bumpier! :)

Highly advanced yes, highly good-looking for sure.
Hope you can post a high-res close-up render of the ventral side, once the Lady is finished. I wanna examine this area very closely.
-
Looking for my mistakes? hehe
-
Looking for my mistakes? hehe
nah, i'm just curious. :)
-
This is a question I feel kind of stupid for asking, as it has probably been answered before. But, what is the method you use for creating your displacement maps. Do you simply sketch out bitmaps or do you 3d model the detail and create bitmaps from that?
-
I draw them in a greyscale map
-
And another update:
-
I was all bummed that I wouldn't be able to see all of those awesome map details in the final playable version...and then I remembered that I now have a card which supports normal maps. Funny how old habits die hard. :p
-
I draw them in a greyscale map
Awesome, thanks. :)
-
And now it's about time to start getting her dirty.
-
Oh baby. ;7
-
And we're done:
-
So hot, want to touch the hiney
-
Wow superb work Axem and BrandX. :D
I keep catching myself trying to spot Vader through the glass. :p
-
Or Han and Chewie, for that matter. :p
-
I don't think they had wookies in mind when they designed her, Mongoose.
