Got it.
When you have the model file and all the textures converted, load it into 3DX then do the whole flip-faces thingy, then save it again as COB. After that simply save it as 3ds. The only thing wrong with it when I did it were a few of the textures were kinda screwy in Anim8or- butnot in 3DX. Don't ask me why.
edit: I forgot to say, if you are saving to a new directory, do actually use the Save as BMP function. And make sure other stuff like save texture maps is enabled.
Intriguing thing is I get this in TS1 when I load up a converted .cob- havn't sorted it out for TS1, but I hope that helps you man
