I don't know if this is the right place for this but it doesn't fit anywhere else so I'll post it here.

I downloaded TrueSpace 1 the other day and have been using Pof2Cob to convert FreeSpace 2 models for use in Truespace scenes. Fair enough. Once I finally figured out how to apply a texture map to the model I'd imported (a Valkyrie, if thats relevant) I found that I could paint the texture onto the model but I would really like it if this process could be automated i.e. applying the relevant parts of the texture map too all the models faces at once. Is this possible or am I just asking for trouble?

Man, I really wish Bobboau was here. He's very handy with TS.  

Anyway, there is a way to do what you want, but it is not automated - dammit, I can't quite remember. I'll do a search for the thread, it's here somewhere.

Thanks, the only reason I posted this here was because I was using Truespace to produce fan art as opposed to new models for the game. If it still doesn't fit here I'll remember to post future queries there. (and there'll probably be a few...   )

Fair enough. But the people who know how to texture in TS are more likely to frequent the FS Modding forum   So the thread would get better exposure elsewhere.

Texturing with Truespace 1: AAAARRRRGGGGG!!!

I think the easyiest way is to get on your knees and pray to your God (and all other gods) for a miracle.  
TS1 can only apply one UV space to the entire model, and unfortunately the FS models are not built to work this way. FS fighter skins contain multiple textures that are supposed to be placed at certain faces, not simply slapped around the model on a big sphere.
You COULD try to use a spherical UV space and carefully move every single texture into position, but I Don't give any guarantee that this will bring any results. I rather think the spherical UV will warp the skin so the textures will not fit into their appropiate places.

 
you could try segeltuch if you know what I mean
Its one of the best fs editors and it does lots including texture mapping.
its quite easy to use and its free
you can get it from volition watch I think

if your useing a converted model you souldn't have to redo the UVspace, just use the "paint over meaterial" tool or the "paint object" tool (thogh it won't work well for capitals and things that have thrusters).
