Had a I want to revisit Aqua-seizure  ;) again, forcing me to replay all three near perfect games this weekend. And then I came up with the idea of asking in this forum if anybody else also like these games?

In case you don't already know what I am talking about, I am refering to the games Schleichfahrt (Archimedean Dynasty in English), AquaNox and Aquanox: Revelation. Somebody?

I picked up Aquanox back for cheap years back when my computer wasn't actually powerful enough to run it with all the effects turned on, fired up an instant action mission, got my rear end handed to me on a platter, and proceeded to ignore it for years.

Recently I revisited the game on my much more powerful computer with all the effects turned up to max, and it's a very beautiful and interesting world to blow things up in.  Some of the missions are just insanely hard to do properly, like the one where you're trying to neutralize army boats attacking a broadcast station, without destroying them.  The problem is that disabled ships still show up in the radar as hostile blips and it makes situational awareness a problem when the entire radar is showing you a sea of red and you can't find the active targets fast enough to keep them from blowing the vessel you're escorting to kingdom come.

Also the wingmate AI is pretty laughably bad.  And I'd love the option to do more exploration of the various zones without the "Mission Complete" lockout of my controls, which it does without any particular rhyme or reason (some missions it instantly does that, others don't end until you manually engage your drives, and those aren't always just because you're running away from something either).

But boy is it ever pretty.
Everything is better with monkeys.  Even pie.

That is the best first post I have ever seen.

yeah, Aquanox One has a few flaws      (no mouse in menu :ick:)
However, I never felt it was hard. Although the mission where you have to EMP Cox's ships attack the broadcasting station is probably the hardest.

check out the sequel, this one looks awesome even by today's standarts and all flaws have been adressed.

Aquanox: Revelations is actually one of my favourite games. It was critically panned and seems to be pretty widely disliked, but yeah. It hit a note with me.

Didn't like the first Aquanox at all, though, and I haven't played Archimedean Dynasty.

I think Aquanox was an OK. action game, AqN:Revelations was a better game...

...but they all pale in comparison to Archimedean Dynasty, my favorite from the whole series to this date.

Ah. I still remember Archimedean Dynasty somewhat. I borrowed the game from my cousin back in the old days. Never played Aquanox series, though I've wanted to.

AD was a cool game.
