Re: MORTAL ENGINES: Peter Jackson and Bryan See: a match made in heaven?
I stumbled upon an article on ScreenRant on the setting of Mortal Engines, which, according to production designer Dan Hennah, set approx 1700 years from now (the same setting(!) as Shattered Stars). I wonder, how did the FreeSpace Universe (including Blue Planet/SS shared continuities) and the 2004 BSG (re-imagined) universe fit in? How did Earth end up in a state like in the film between the end of FS2/BP and ME?

Hint:
ME take place approx. 151,709 years after BSG.
FS takes place 150,326 years after BSG.
FS2 takes place 150,358 years after BSG.
BP takes place 150,376 years after BSG.

Edit:
BTW, if the GTVA survived by that ME timeframe, let's say around 3800 AD, I am sure the GTVA's very drastic fears will have come true. Earth has been reduced to a wasteland, and roamed by Traction Cities. Then, Sol will have left completely vulnerable to Shivan invasion. Hester Shaw might be a major project underway in Sol space which might serve as a weapon against the GTVA, according to BP intelligence data.

I know that this kind of crossover fiction don't belong in this thread, but I'm not sure how they will respond.

I'm sure that you're the only person on Earth who's capable of awnsering these questions.

I am. I'm talking about the film.

No you ****ing aren't. You're talking about a weird little mashup that exists only and exclusively in your head.

Mortal Engines is its own thing. It is not connected to other franchises. FS2 is not part of the Mortal Engines backstory. BP is not part of it. BSG is not part of it.

You said in your post that you do know that crossover fiction has no place in this thread. Please demonstrate that you actually know what that means and do not post about your crossover fiction in this thread.

Consider this a warning. Any further post from you in this thread that involves FS, BSG, your mod or any other franchise will be split out and locked.

Like ME has similarities to Star Wars, with Anna Fang is Han Solo. The stories in the books keep getting better.

FYI, you are on the ME discord.

I heard this warning. So, where can I made this post that involves FS, BSG, my mod or any other franchise (i.e. UGSF Series) without making one in this thread? In the thread of my mod?

If you want to compare ME to other franchises, fine, go right ahead. But do not post about how these disparate franchises are part of some giant thing you made up.

The thread you made for your own mods would be a good place for that sort of discussion, yes.

Do you know that one of Philip Reeve's (the author of ME), early influences include Star Wars? Its references are evident.

Two new posters have arrived.

Plus, a Hester Shaw featurette.

Don't tell me that a match with Peter Jackson being made in heaven I hope, and that the Shivans and Cylons are waiting.

Wait, you mean to say that the largest movies in the SciFi genre influenced other creators in said genre?

Yes.

As stated in the biography page in Philip Reeve's official website:
Quote
His early influences included Oliver Postgate, Jackanory, Blue Peter, Asterix, Look and Learn, Swallows and Amazons, Airfix models, Whizzer and Chips, Rosemary Sutcliff, Action Man, JRR Tolkein, Star Wars, biscuits, bikes and boats.
Not to mention there are lots of references in it.

Folks, Bryan has literally no capability to grasp sarcasm in text, so - difficult as it may be - please avoid the snark; it just leads to more posts and replies devoid of meaningful content.  Which frankly we could do with fewer of in these threads anyway.

Sorry for failing to grasp any bit of sarcasm.

Anyway, how's the second official trailer released last week?

BTW, I'd like to re-create the airship Jenny Haniver and the 13th Floor Elevator for FreeSpace.

Blender is free 3d modelling software.   I suggest downloading it (Google will yield a link) and following the very comprehensive tutorials within its included documentation.

You can recreate to your hearts content once you master the tutorials.

I have it, and been using it ever since. :)

But what of the Jenny Haniver and 13th Floor Elevator? There are at least two (or three) reference pictures of the airships.

You'll need to research your own reference I'm afraid.   Or use your own creative ability and imagination to interpret anything your images may not provide when creating your model.

Re: MORTAL ENGINES: Peter Jackson and Bryan See: a match made in heaven?
as entertaining as bryan is, and as cynical as my attempt to capitalise on this in the thread title was, can we maybe talk about the film being made based on the cool books for a bit instead?

like their shrike is precisely on point:

The good Christian should beware of mathematicians, and all those who make empty prophecies. The danger already exists that the mathematicians have made a covenant with the devil to darken the spirit and to confine man in the bonds of Hell.

Looks cool :)

Admittedly, I and Peter Jackson do not meet a match in heaven at the least.

But is he Shivan or Cylon or UIMS or Borg or Cyberman or Dalek or something? Or Hester could be?

The latest trailer has me more optimistic about the whole thing. It's going to be a massive spectacle-a-minute, visual overload of a movie, and honestly, I'm a bit of a sucker for those.
