Judging by the mixed reviews on Steam, I think I enjoyed The Escapist's Youtube review of this game more than I would enjoy the game. (Seriously, I laughed my ass off at that video. )
A lot of them are from people that wanted another broadside based game like the original Rebel Galaxy when this is a classic spacesim or another Freelancer when the combat is freespace-like instead of standard FPS combat in space.
Then there are the hardcore gamerz that dislike the help features available at the lower difficulty levels.
Yahtzee also thinks that the look of the game is inspired by Borderlands instead of the original Wing Commander Privateer (look up a few videos on youtube) which this game is a blatant throwback too, he enjoys Elite for the dead times that many think make it boring and since this game has an autopilot feature for long travels he disliked it.
PS: I'm almost tempted to buy it again on Steam just to leave a thoroughly detailed positive review that's actually helpful, some of the negative ones are just so weird. One even complained about the HOTAS support for some reason and for an indie game this kind of thing really hurts.
