Well I have been waiting for a full T-V Project to come out. I have played the demo but what happens after the Lunar Republic trades with the Kupiter Belt Alliance? Place your thoughts here. :)
-
It will come out when it's ready.
-
Well, speculation is fun. :)
There are some shady characters in the Kuiper Confederacy, and they're more concerned about the color of your money than the color of your flag. So don't assume the LR's initial success in dealing with them will last. Don't assume the LR is the only faction to have contacts with them, either.
-
Now that we've had some major releases..3.6.10, port stuff etc, is this and other projects going to be kickstarted again? It seems reasonable that the more talented people would have some more free time now..well not exactly now (Christmas you know), but at the beginning of next year.
-
Yes.
-
Me wants to fight Vasudans. Without shields.
-
Me wants old ships that can be used as civvy things...
Me wants to see a Reliant kick some but...
Me wants to do powerslides in a renamed Enceladus with the gunpoints changed... (no offense, i really like the alpha and beta)
Me wants to play TVWP! :P
-
IMO adding shields made the FS gameplay experience less enjoyable. The early Vasudan killing missions without shields made you actually fear the enemy.
-
duly noted. How about super weak shields?
-
Those still recharge though.
-
hmmm...
-
The most fun I had playing Freespace was the Freespace 1 demo
-
I was actually scared of an Anubis in the beginning of the campaign . . . :nervous:
-
I really enjoyed the first few missions of FS1. The dogfighting was really intense and more engaging and fast-paced than it was with shields.
-
And I hate playing the first few missions of FS1, because I can't use my usual ignore-the-enemy-until-I-kill-this-thing tactic. :p Having to worry about every single little stray missile blast or turret blob gets tiresome rather quickly.

Same.
And then there are the user made campaigns that have you without shields. Some of them are so damn sadistic.
I mean, ****, doing bombing runs without shields is like...suicide. For all involved parties. (Bombers, escorts, interceptors, the target).
The TVWP demo wasn't so cruel, though the lack of a targeting computer is kinda mean :P
-
At least all the subspace battles I've fought weren't so bad. :D

Well, in a good "no-shields" type of campaign, they'd warn you about large blasts (such as freighters or warheads) and wouldn't have you intercepting too many shockwave-producing bombs. Unfortunately, most campaigns without shields have you intercepting warheads with BP-style shockwaves...

For me it adds to the experience. When I got shields I just flew in and blew everything up. With the Avenger, fighters died in droves. Without shields it felt I was just another pilot. I actually had to dodge blobs, I had to be more tactical against enemy bombers and fighters, and actually had to run from explosions. With shields however, I fly in, keep pressing Q, and kill everything in sight in seconds.

Me wants to see it released ;)

i liked how the beginning of TVWP (without sensors) left you aware solely of your own situation, and everything else was... disembodied.
Really took away the 'Alpha 1' feeling (i like it like that)
-
Well, hopefully they can start you off feeling like a no-one, and then they give you some nifty swag so you get that "I am Alpha 1, the God of War. I cannot die." feeling.
-
I predict 2335.

I co started this project with Thor when I was in middle school.
I'm now in college and only one third of the "demo" chapter has been released. We originally planned the demo as a way to get something out a bit quicker, because we could start work without worrying about get new Vasudan models. However let me say that the quality of the first chapter has far exceeded anything I could have imagined during the first stages of the project.
I've been keeping track of progress out of curiosity over the years and considering the main workers are devoting time to other projects it's amazing what has been released has been released. With ST:Reborn done, some of the developers may be freed up, but I can't speak for them.
If I recall from the demo when I played it, there are a number of ships and weapons available. If I have the authority, I'd like to encourage fans of the project to FRED stand-alone missions or mini campaigns using the files available. While I wouldn't advise stepping on the official toes by fleshing out the rest of the Unification War, I'd be interested to see small conflicts between some of the outer factions. Maybe give us reason to distrust the Kuiper Federation or tell the story of a security guard defending gas miners. If Freespace 2 is a World War II style dogfighter, this is World War I.
That's if you don't want to try and help them finish the official missions. ;)
-
Ironically, the release of Act II of the TVWP did not depend on ST:R. The guy who is supposed to be FREDding the remaining mission has not finished it yet. :(
However, now that ST:R is out, the ST:R developers may be forced to take over that mission...
But those are some good suggestions, Solatar (or should I say Hades :p). And keep in mind, you still have a TVWP badge. If you're interested in becoming active again and leading work on another chapter, you're welcome to step in. ;)
-
I was wondering...what happened to Blaise Russel?
-
I was wondering the same thing.

If I ever get back into Freespace proper (which I hope to do possibly this summer), I might just do that. For now I'm too busy to be really be leading anything.
Still, I'm glad you guys have made this project into something worthwhile. Who knows, I might try to FRED some standalone missions in my spare time for practice/release.
-
Sometime I think I'd like to work on TVWP, but right now I is quite busy.
-
Hi
Acccording to anubis notlikers :ick:
Anubis is very nice fighter, manuverable and make your adrenaline production busy quite well ;)
I personaly don`t like Horus... because she got gunpod too wide placed.

It has no afterburner. 2 guns. 1 missile bank. Shields like rice paper.
How can you like that deathtrap?
-
Well
Because of her weakness, you gain nice boost to yours survival skills and that is nice.
It something like fighting in subspace corridor - i like that part too
-
In the mod, are intrasystem jump engines going to be installed on fighters?
I really like the idea of having to be deployed, and the subspace jumping to your base ship in a safe location kinda killed some feeling for me in FS and FS2

Wing Commander style mission start and ending FTW.

TVWP has to be FS-ish...
-
There is a place for taking off and landing cutscenes, but I just don't think TVWP is the place for them.
I find such things are more fitted to stylistically different campaigns.
-
What makes TVWP unique is the original combat system, so it should follow it's own style. :)

That's true too.

It's too bad that Blaise Russel is MIA. He would have boosted TVWP's progress by now. :(
-
BR hates me. :( :shaking:
-
I know why. He has all the right to dislike you. :drevil:
-
IDC if there are cutscenes, I just don't like starting the mission wondering where I launched from, then pressing ALT-J and magically disappearing

Waah! Waah! I haet u! :(

Off topic but i'm very curious: Why is that?

I said that the Derelict SCP voice acting wasn't all that great because the mission specific voice acting was far too soft when compared to the built-in retail voice acting (so either I couldn't hear the mission-specific voice acting, or I would have to hear the retail voice actors screaming down my headphones).
BR took my comment personally and said that nobody cared what my volume settings were... Which I kind of guess was right.

Wow, I thought I was immature.
