Title: A celebration of Blue Planet
Post by: SF-Junky on August 16, 2010, 08:02:16 am
Now that I can finally make some screenshots again with my new supercomputer :D, I started right away with BP: WiH

Alas I couldn't finish the mission because FS2 crashed for some unknown reason. I think I got some nice shots anyway.

Did you know that Delenda Est was Battuta's first mission?

I see mostly black and planetary rings with more black stuff in front of them ;) I don't want to be a buzzkill, bit glory shots look different.

I suggest you to check your monitor brightness, contrast and gamma settings. :p

Maybe it's my cheap HP display at work... maybe it's also a sign I shouldn't browse HLP at work ;)

Well can't say I'm much fan of the NO AMBIENTLIGHTING fetish some people seem to have around here. Ships are nice and all but I'd like to be actually able see the detail on them instead of just a black void (and no, its not my monitor or my eyes  :blah: )

SF-Junky: Next time, turn off the HUD!

Seriously what spoon said.
What's the point in playing a blank screen?

SF-Junky: Next time, turn off the HUD!
Try to remember it. Thanks for the hint. Waht do you mean with the ambientlight?

Anyway, here's another pack of screens. Same mission, but again I wasn't able to comeplete it because I lost one of the Frigates.

The ending scene of Delenda Est:

That was the most epic mission I've ever played in a mod. Ever.

And Hans Zimmer only makes it more awesome.

Defenitely, yes. This scene can cope with any award-winning drama movie. That is exactly what I meant when I said that WiH is not a campaign but an artwork.

Actually I found the Battuta by accident. I thought he was talking about the Enyalius, and I was flying over to see if it had a nameplate.

When WiH:DC/VA comes out, there should be an option where you can stay with the Yangtze and have a heroic last stand (you can now, but you also get the Indus killed).

Actually that's one of the few places I think beam fade enhanced it.

It was asploding from being brushed by a faded beamsaber tip.
That's no way as impressive as being utterly gutted and skewered by a beam extending to infinity.

I'm not sure, in this case the beam would have probably stopped inside the shot anyway. Better to do it right as it pierces the ship.

IIRC the fading has been removed from both the BP and MVPs SVNs. So, nothing to argue about.

I pretty sure I accidentally did that once, but it was pretty borked since I destroyed the comm subsystem during the Antenor's transmission. I ended up with both mission failure dialogue and normal dialogue but still failed the mission.

Hex scalpel. ;)

Antenor has been completely disabled. Now for the waiting game.

~~

Conversation is as follows;

Spoiler:
Hanuman: The Antenor is using isome kind of improvised transceiver to transmit a short-range message to the Carthage! Attempting to jam!
Antenor: <intercepted> Admiral, this is Captain Hamid! You're the real target! Get out now, or they'll rip you apart!
Carthage: <intercepted> I would sooner die than see my men in an Ubuntu camp. Stand by, Captain. We'll have the jamming cleared in five minutes.
Simms: Hanuman, shut that corvette up!
Antenor: <intercepted> Admiral! We are NOT WORTH IT! Get the hell out while you still can!
Carthage: <intercepted> God damn it.
Carthage: <intercepted> Ops, signal all hands to brace for a crash jump. Helm, spool up the tactical drive. Captain Hamid - godspeed. I will be back for you, just as soon as I can.

Tribute to the best single mission campaign i've ever played, from the perspective of Captain Ivan Grenady.

I'm starting to think the white shock waves are the way to go.

I really do like the paneling on the textures, to be honest.

Looks kind of plastic, actually. Overly shiny in some areas, and it seems too clean. But it certainly looks nice. Is this one of the optimized ships that won't kill our GPUs?

I'm seeing the new optimized textures in new light. That looks pretty good!

How did you get white shockwaves?

Check out the Earth Defense thread, there's a bunch of different shock waves there.

Well, I know this isn't an ED thread but... http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=72539.0

The ones shown in the screenshots are 2D shockwaves.

The nice thing about it is you get to PICK your own color! If you want white, scroll down to Fury's post.

About the Artillery frig texture: I like that variation of it, looks high tech and hardcore all at the same time. Very stylish. Arty frigs in R2 will be mostly under command of 1st fleet I am assuming. Has a nice 1st fleet feel to it. Maybe Fedayeen?

The Narayanas are divided pretty evenly between the fleets, actually.

Nighteyes, the guy who did those shockwaves, is on BP and ED both.
