It's also quite simple to go into the POF and just reduce fire arcs...

The Titan firing its Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) turrets

MLRS rockets impact a Hedetet-class destroyer. It doesn't really do much to capships, but it works wonders against enemy fighter and bomber formations.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
I'm not digging the light strips. They're obviously not part of the original design. The ones in Defcon looked much nicer.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
The Amaterasu has 169 turret emplacements.  It's meant to mess stuff up big time.

Horizon has 42.  It's supposed to be a battleship.  Similar length to Daegon, and has similar capship weapon firing arcs, but its winged design prevents use of a full barrage unless the target is far away and directly to the side of it.  I don't think it uses beams as powerful as Daegon (not sure).  It also has 19 destroyable hull plates, two of which lead to an internal reactor chamber complete with modeled reactor core.

I think darkening the light strips, especially at the edges could be useful. I'm not into this texture stuff, but I see potential. It's alright as is, but it looks too out of place with the rest of the design IMO.

I'll fix that. Didn't have time to make the glows better, since I had to go to school...

Not to mention that I can never get used to seeing it from this angle:

...which is my own problem, but there you go.

I'm remind of how most capship battles in StarLancer are done.

In that case it's ironic that it's actually mostly an anti-fighter weapon. :p

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Yeah.

In retrospect, ship-to-ship torpedo battles aren't really very feasible in FS2 right? I mean, both ships stay about 2 km away from each other and fire lots of torpedoes at each other. The warheads will be destroyable once they're 500 m into their flight, making them easy to shoot down. The only reason why it worked in StarLancer was probably because of its crap targeting HUD, but here, in FS2, the HUD is very informative and easy to use.

No. Trust me, torpedo battles are very feasible.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Starlancer usually required you to knock out the enemy ship's fire-control before a successful torpedo engagement was possible. FS usually will too.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
I fell FS of all is one of the best engines to represent this kind of battle.
You must take into account that not all torpedoes go in a straight line, so hitting one of those will prove difficult sometimes.
Also I would dare to say that all torpedoes should always be faster than fighters, so in order to bring down one you'll need a lot of practice and skill.

If it's not going in a relatively straight line, how is it a torpedo?

Re: A celebration of Freespace
It's a corcscrew torpedo then.
With "no radius doubling" and hitpoints it's a really difficult kind of torpedo to kill.
You may also launch them in a groups of 8 using "salvo mode" with a missile launcher.
On all of the Raynor's missile turrets.
Effect is truly epic, especially if torpedoes are not really doing very much damage, resulting in a long, FS1 style battle.
I had also combined it with heavy slasher beams, which also do much less damage than FS ones.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Those are not torpedoes, those are unguided rockets, hence the R in MLRS. They carry cluster warheads designed to destroy tight formations of fighters and bombers. The main anti-capital weapons in my post-Capella mod are heavy beam cannons. The MLRS launchers are firing on the Hedetet because there are no enemy fighters in range.

Also, they do launch in groups of 8.

I had also combined it with heavy slasher beams, which also do much less damage than FS ones.
That's mainly because they have lower base damage than regular beams. :P
