Title: An anthropomorphization of Freespace
Post by: Shiku on March 02, 2009, 03:24:35 pm
Last night I had the weirdest dream. I was playing FreeSpace, but all the ships had faces, like in Thomas the Tank Engine...

So I bring you this monstrosity.

EDIT: WARNING! THIS THREAD MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED FREESPACE 1 OR 2

(http://www.animeforum.com/image/1528654956e7947294e.jpg) I used to watch those shows all the time too because i only had 2 channels. Theodore is now fs2. Lets pit him against a deimos.

If only the Deimos was UV mapped, we could have a reskin...

Hey, what about the Aeolus? :nervous:

You forgot the "SHOOP DA WOOP" bright red blackface lips.

Tried it, it looked Horrible. Plus I think somebody already did that with a Deimos.

There will be more later, but I am tired and going to bed now. So you only get one!

Aside from fs1, fs2, wazone, sync, and transcend. That's all i ever played.
Title: Re: An anthropomorphization of Freespace
Post by: Androgeos Exeunt on March 04, 2009, 05:58:46 am
FS1 is almost the same as FSP, as FSP = FreeSpace Port.

I think what S-99 wanted to know is which one because they all look similar. I initially thought it's the one closest to the screen, and then I took a closer look at the faces.

A first attempt, sorry for the bad background and the bad quality - not actual gameplay video but cut from FS Wiki and the Alcibiades' Gamble stuff.

EDIT: I know that it's small. What should I do to make it big AND not crappy? :) (tried to use (lvlshot) but used (img) instead.

The first thing to note is that the face is slightly above what I consider to be the subspace weapon.

The second thing is that the light settings and LOD seems a bit out.

If there is a JAD 4 it definately needs the faces... already did the Teletubby sun... but it needs the faces!

Would it be possible to create a quad with a dynamic face texture that would change due to damage taken and/or AI profile? Of course, this would be managed via scripting/coding...

Try to put yourself in the shoes of the people working in the Sanctuary. They've spent fifty years hiding in terror from the Shivans, knowing that, if the Great Destroyers find the Sanctuary, all hope is lost.

So, imagine how they reacted when they met Commander Samuel Bei Cheow Keng of the 14th Sol Battlegroup, who made good on his promise to get them out of the hellhole their universe has become. That's right, they rejoiced. They've not partied for fifty years and have subsequently forgotten how to do it properly, but they did it anyway, with quite a few crates of booze somebody managed to smuggle onboard. Consequently, having forgotten how strong wine, liquor, vodka and alcohol are, they downed everything at once ... on the day before they were due to rendezvous with the GTD Temeraire:

The screen is very confusing, it's impossible to make out what it's supposed to be, I always figured it wasn't a star, or a cluster of stars because they're too uniform, Subspace vortexes are blue so they couldn't be that either, so the only thing I thought was most feasable was that it was the thruster emissions of an unknown, very large Shivan warship (Supposedly it could have been the engine pattern of a Juggernaut concept).

If someone actually tried to get FS2 Open to render TTGL, how fast do you think the game engine would crash?  I'm pretty sure the thing's size vastly exceeds whatever limits are built into the engine's coordinate systems.

Though, the moon-sized mecha might be possible.

To handle objects of absurd size you have to have an engine capable of generalizing terrain LOD rendering to models, and probably some method of handling insane scale differences. I'm sure the FS engine could handle fairly large models simply by modern graphics cards brute forcing it.

It is possible, however, to render absurd scales because you never require high precision at extreme distances, so if your galaxy was being rendered with a unit precision of ten light years it'd be perfectly fine as long as it was really far away, since the andromeda galaxy moving 10 light years isn't even visible. Unfortunately no modern 3D graphics engine bothers to do this. Yet.

You thought furries, yet you clicked on it anyway.  Hoping it wasn't furries?  Or maybe not... O.O

Why on earth would you tell anyone to do that?  It's an amazing film!  You should watch it at least once a year, on average.

I just find myself cringing all the way through, even as a kid I could only tolerate the film in short doses. I think it just suffers too much from 80's happy go lucky sci-fi and as such for me it falls into the cringe on sight category along with E.T. and The Navigator.

I haven't seen the Navigator but E.T. and Short Circuit were awesome.  You, sir, need to get your 80's cultural appreciation meter checked.

Jeez headdie, it's like you didn't see them in the '80s with the rest of us cool kids or something.

Just thought I should make this known again...

Hello, everyone, I'm back.
The Earthshaker 2367, it is inspired from a MOD for Descent3, "Earthshaker 2001".
However, I think big missiles are effective measure against shivan jaggarnauts.
Aeolus tractor ship is my design.
Earthshaker warhead is based on The Earthshaker missile from Descent2 game.

It is still stay in trueSpace, not in the game yet.
Do you want to fire this missile?
