Wonderful?
It depends on this: the beams are fired by the aeolus? If not, pray for that poor ship!
In fact when i was in my fellow Erynes, an aeolus was the last thing that could worry me. Well, after those ridicolous ships come from the great war...
But if the aeolus are now equipped with those beams.. WOW! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/eek.gif)

I spoke about the beams, not about the Aeolus. It's just an insect... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
I know, but if an Aeolus with those beams can worry me, i don't want to encounter anything morre than that!
Just try to imagine an Hecate with those beams. Or the ex-Colossus...
Well now put those beams on the new MT capships... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/eek.gif)

Maybe if u didn't play the game on very easy, you'd realize that the Aeolus could rip apart your little fighter with its heavy flak and AAAF in seconds!! The Aeolus kicks a$$!!!!
And they don't come from the great war they were built after the great war, just like a lot of the new ships in FS2 like the Sobek, Deimos, Hecate and Hatshepsut to name but a few.
Oh and Styxx EXCELLENT work on those new Electrobeams!! i'll be sure to nominate you for the Nobel prize this year! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) they're pretty sweet.

I would MUCH rather go against an Orion in a fighter than an Aeolus. You go near that thing and the next thing you notice your shields are outpummeled and hull integrity is at 30% before you get out of reach (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
Exactly Jabu, I remember playing the mission "Kings Gambit" where you have to blockade the node and blow away all the NTF ships that come thru the Node. Well a whole wack of ships came thru like an orion a couple Deimos a leviathan, and 2 Aeolus, well the 2 most difficult ships to destroy were the Aeolus since u could barely get near them would being swatted down like a fly with flak!

My fave mission. The one with the Mjolnir's, right?
The Aeolus were real tough. I mean, they were so small the RBCs usually missed them and they were real tough to take out in a fighter...
-
Yep thats the one ! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) it's probably my fave mission too ! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) yep the RBCs did usually miss them Aeolus, or if they did hit them they only hit for like a second.

Yah but the Electrobeams are Anti Capital ship beams right? not anti fighter beams, so it would only be a pain if you had to defend a capital ship from another capital ship outfitted with these beams.

Aeolus is woefully underrated by most people. It's still my favorite cruiser.

Heh, the Electrobeams are much more than just anti-cap beams.
There is not a single type of electrobeam - last time I checked our internal docs there were around seven of them - ranging from anti-fighter to heavy anti-capship beams, and some other... unusual setups.

Yeah...

Well, i don't like this kind of attacks to my person...
Especially because you dn't know what i have or i haven't done.
Maybe i didn't played the game oon very extra mega ultra hard, but i have enough experience in Multi-player to say that with the right weapons with one or two passes i can rip apart an aeolus.
Obviously, in the single player campaign, everything is more deadly in multiplayer because you don't have respawn, but i can assure you that the aoelus still have the same firepower.

Have you ever tried to make some missions with FRED2? Well, if not, I tried once and i was thinking on sending the mission to SW...
But that's another story. What I want to say is that some type of beam cannons were either anti-cap and anti-fighter beams. Obviously against a fighter they weren't much usuful, but against a bomber they were deadly. For example, in the mission in multiplayer were you have to destroy an hatsepshut and another ship... Well, the same beams of the hatse that usually fired against cap ships, they were firing against fighters and hitting them...
Oh, and about the ships came from the great war, i was talking about the leviathan...

Didn't mean to attack your person I just feel offended when peepz bad mouth the Aeolus (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) Its the best Cruiser in the bloody GTVA. If u play it on anything above Easy An Aeolus will kick your a$$. There is no dodging flak buddy! and Dodging AAAF is very difficult but dooable kinda, but the flak does the most damage.

Cool styxx are you guys gonna release these beams in a separate mod? or they just in the campaign?

We'll probably release one or two of them as a separate mod before the campaign is released, but I can't promise anything right now... (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Sorry Akira, but people are entitled to their opinion, and you can't make an assumption based on your own piloting skills as to everyone else's. I for one can take down an Aeolus on my own, with some time and a Subach. You can learn to dodge flak, you just have to be economic with your shields.

Not for me. If u play it on anything above Easy An Aeolus will kick your a$$. I didn't say that's a **** . I said that's something more dangerous. ANd I Haven't played the game only in Very Easy. There is no dodging flak buddy! True, There's no dodging. But the Flaks haven't a very long range. With the right equipment you can do something very bad on that ship. and Dodging AAAF is very difficult Very difficult? I usually dodged AAAF with my Erynes and also with slower ships. Yes, in a bomber it's another thing... but dooable kinda, but the flak does the most damage.
Well, probably yes.

The Aeolus is small, fast, and one mean little package.
The first time I saw it in the Freespace2 demo before buying the game, I was floored. The thing took down half a Shivan corvette (while under heavy bomber/beam fire) before succumbing.
Then the Psamtik came and tore the heart out of the Balam, but that's another story.

Yes, but remember that a small and fast fighter is much different from a slow and big cap-ship.

Yah I do that pump all your shields to the forward section thing too, but usually there are enemy fighters buzzing around and firing on you and sometimes its hard to avoid AAAF when you're flying straight at an Aeolus on an attack run, I can take out an aeolus by myself too, but what i'm trying to say is that its one potent little ship.

I've never said that the Aeolus isn't a good ship. Infacti i like it very much.
And when i attack an Aeolus i prefer to take some power from the weapon system and give it to the engine system, so you can dodge flaks (that aren't seeking, so when they're fired they aim at your last position) and AAAF and fire (usually) the thumb-fire missiles (Agh! Forgot their name!). About the shields, I prefer keeping them up in all the 4 directions, cause if you're hit by a flak cannon, it damages from every direction.

Some people still didnĀ“t get it right. The Aeolus is not going to use these beams. They are TA beams. Styxx used the Aeolus just for testing purposes. And there are several versions of the Electrobeams (something like 7 different versions, I think)
-
Exactly! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

I got it. The problem is that now the discussion changed subject that isn't anymore the electrobeam but the aeolus itself! =)
