Title: Timoke. No, delete last Fokker Triplane. No
Post by: Aadarsh on January 11, 1927, 01:46:24 am
You damn-- okay.  All right.  Whew.  Jackpot!  Rybak's password is "fortune favors the bold"!  Log in, download everything you possibly can, and tell everyone you know.  Tell the press, tell your friends, tell the ham radio operators, tell anyone you can so they can't cover it up.  It's the only way we can OSHI-!↓♠bÄ<╥º↕☺╥⌡}R;ôAIf#ó/▌éx►M9y▀¼√┌x┌┤X@║¼Θf♣╙Ö#á╦ö╦▲,"S4%┴►mgw┴▼>f╨₧☺í╒»¡>\@═¡ΦV¥H8Fn*╚(LE¢ë▀»8`Å=≤CδSm█L·^û╡3Æ¢■î2♥2≡EF5├v≤¬/↑Ñ‼╕g2:↨◄%╤E⌡oU╓*Y8êC╜>∟╤v(d*§É₧i╒¶╢╥╢ö╚uâFº3s<╖wæe≥▄[UuálP>VXñ4┌╪<gè'sNO CARRIER

Well, that's helpful. Guess I should try to log in as Rybak?

Converting that junk text to hex/dec/etc isn't very helpful here... hm.

Those vague memories of a startling Flash message are coming back loud and clear. :D

(I don't suppose an IP reset would matter anymore?)

Heh, I remember crashing horribly last time, that puzzle was mean. But I forgot the inlog codes and the like :P

Login: Andreas.rybak

Remember the vasudan letter, it's important. If you see honeypot.php, get the hell out.

DAMMIT GOOBER

Got something. It's big, but it requires a password. When you find Resources > Deneb 3, make sure to right click and save as. Opening a zip file in your browser will mess things up.

But it's a password protected zip. One last puzzle.

Right, so: Resources -> Deneb 3 > Right click download file - save as.

Gives deneb3.zip. It's a typical mod setup, with a bmp image (Typhon.bmp), a Deneb3.vp, a readme file, the Interstitial Puzzle reward, and a mod.ini

But I can't extract them yet as I don't know the password.

Uploaded the file to google drive (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_rMuWCG3UTGbnJBa2NkbC1SS0k/view?usp=sharing). Have fun cracking! I probably missed something obvious.

I did. (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=57704.msg1177687#msg1177687)

Password is Harakhti

Mod.ini indicates FSPort requirement.

Have fun!

This message looks really familiar...

...but the attachment isn't.

*looks for Darius*

Did 9 years come and go so fast?

Huh, so it's the old thread but a new download?  Neat.

(This one originally gave us the video, right?)

When all of this is said and done, I have half a mind to make a big thread expanding on Goober's OOC explanation, going through what we did and found at every step. It'll be as much for my benefit to remember the game as much as anything.

I quite distinctly recall that it gave us 179. I got to the txt file but couldn't crack it (I was really young and stupid :P )

That's right.  I really just vaguely remember how the end of that turned out.

And hey, was this campaign (http://www.sectorgame.com/goober/denebiii.html) always available, or did Goober just update the page after the release?

Oh jeez...and the good Admiral Amentep showed up all the way back in that translated Vasudan memo (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=57704.msg1176715#msg1176715).  This is why you don't wait 9 years to finish things! :p

Okay now everyone go play it.  I wiped five years' worth of dust off my joystick for it!

Why *just* FSPort as a secondary mod?  Why not the FS Port MediaVPs?  I'm not used to the Orion just being a giant blue box anymore!  The detail on the Qeb transports is jarring compared to the fuzziness on else.  Or did I do something wrong?

Also, I unzipped into folder "Deneb III" and tried to run it that way until finally realizing that the campaign couldn't find itself that way.  Ended up renaming the folder "Deneb" and leaving it at that.

Because the campaign was probably designed without the FSPort Mediavps 9 years ago :P - But if you want the MediaVPs, you can just copy the relevant line from the Silent Threat Reborn mod.ini
Code: [Select]
[multimod]
primarylist = fsport-mediavps_2014;
secondarylist = fsport,mediavps_2014;
and paste it.

I very nearly did that last night, but I wasn't sure there if it was deliberately excluded because of some compatibility issue.  Was hoping from some comment by Half Myriad of Guubers.

[OOC] Might as well...

The campaign was originally designed without the MVPs, as noted.  But it should still be compatible with them, and -Joshua-'s instructions should work.  Nevertheless, a few ships will specifically retain their retail models for reasons that will become apparent by the end of the campaign.

You'll find that this campaign has story tie-ins with FS1, FS2, ST:R, Phoenix, and the "interstitial puzzle" fanfic.  Admiral Amentep plays significant roles in the latter three of these.

I figured I could have messed around with the mod.ini if I'd felt like it, but honestly it was kind of fun seeing that old blue box again.

That was a really, really cool little campaign.

The last mission was particularly well done, although they were all fun to read through and play. I never thought something so low poly could look so badass, and I was looking straight at it when it happened.

Assuming it's appropriate to post reactions here (being very cautious with spoilers)...
First of all, this is the first freshly released campaign I've played immediately.  A lot of that has to do with the fact that I'm new to Freespace, but also because of the puzzle and because it's the only one I thought would be worth taking a chance on, rather than playing an established campaign.  And on that front, I'm glad I did.
Spoiler:
I love how much this campaign interfaces with FS1 and FS2 plotwise.  Mechanics-wise, it felt very old-school.  Not that gimmicks are bad (looking at you JAD), but it's good to play a straightforward campaign and one without a talking protagonist.
A note about the last mission.  On one of my replays, I was looking straight at the Lucifer's beam cannon when it began to spool up.  I thought, "It better be firing at the planet."  I was wrong.
Lastly, dogfighting in the Ulysses?  Yes please!
Thanks a lot.

You're welcome. :)

Spoiler:
[a campaign] without a talking protagonist

I lampshaded this a bit in the second mission. :D
