Well, that's mystifying.
Try playing with a 19.0.0 build.

Okay I just tried to start FS2 with mediavps and got a similar error, wth is going on.

The "maximum number of help overlays was reached" message was an issue in release 19 but was fixed in recent builds. Just click through that message and continue playing.
Unfortunately, there is a different bug which will prevent you from clicking through the message if you start FSO in full screen. Set your FSO resolution to something lower than your screen resolution and be sure that you choose the "Run in window" command line option.

Yea okay. I tried all these settings, doesn't work. This mod is dead man. Completely unplayable, doesn't even start. Tried a nightly built to, nope. Then the error message doesn't even show up, just shows me the Freespace loading wallpaper and 1 second later it turns off.

Can you try "verify file integrity" in the mod dropdown menu on Knossos?
