Title: Info: Guidelines For Forum Conduct
Post by: Fineus on January 02, 2006, 04:43:25 am
Below are the guidelines for forum conduct. Whilst these are guidelines (and therefore partially flexible), it is strongly recommended that each user read through and abide by them. Disregard them and you radically increase your chances of being monkeyed or banned.

However we reserve the right to review problems on a case by case basis. In these situations our word shall be final.

Also there has been some confusion as to what a "Monkeyed" member is. A member of the Monkey user group is someone who has misbehaved so much that we feel they should be excluded from the main public forum and (if applicable) the Grognards section. However their actions do not exclude them from whatever projects they are working on. This allows us to moderate all users without negatively affecting our hosted projects. If a Monkeyed user misbehaves further whilst they are monkeyed then they may find themselves banned outright.

It is also worth noting that a Monkeyed user may be Un-monkeyed after an amount of time seen fit by the staff. Depending on the severity of the problem this may be a few days to calm down and compose themselves or it could be a much longer period - a user can be permanently monkeyed. As I've mentioned above, if a monkeyed user creates further problems then they may find themselves banned - again for a limited or permanent period.

If anyone has any other issues or questions, please contact a staff member who will be happy to answer your questions.

A Note on Attachments
Attachments to posts are NOT permanent in any way shape or form. There is a limited amount of space available on the servers, and "getting more space" is hardly the answer.
We would like to ask for you to consider the following guidelines in regards to what and when to attach an item to a post:

In correlation to the above, the fewer attachments made, the less space is taken up, the longer they will last. Attachments are usually removed first by size, then by age.

Update: 1.12.06
Further information regarding the "Monkey" system.

Recently in the staff forum we've been discussing the system of punishment for those who require it here. The upshot is this system:

Both the Monkey and Ban systems operate under a 3 strike policy.

The first strike will be a 1 week Monkey / Ban.
The second will be of 1 month.
The third will be permanent.

In the case of those placed in the Monkey group, this means you will no longer be able to function on any forum in the Hard Light Productions category.

In the case of those banned it means just that. You will be unable to use the forums.

The administration reserves the right to permanently monkey or ban someone immediately if they do something serious enough make it such a step necessary.

It has been a while since I've had to make additions to this thread, but the recent trend of "spam" polls forces me to do it.

Please remember that although posts made in the General Discussion forum are not counted in a users post count, we still don't allow spam here. The forum is for discussion and we'd like to keep it that way. If users are found continuously posting spam, their right to post will be revoked as per the system detailed above.

Please see this thread (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,53625.0.html) for the new monkey policy.  We've discontinued the three strikes rule for the time being.

Further updated to add a general note regarding the attachment system, with some hopefully helpful guidelines.
