Hunter has enhanced FreeSpace Files with a few miscellaneous upgrades, including the ability to create user accounts (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=92873.0). Go check it out.
FreeSpace Files is worth a visit even if you don't plan on uploading anything, since it features a number of mods and campaigns, both current and classic, including many that used to be on the now-defunct VolitionWatch Archives.
