Title: RELEASE: Awakenings for Port 3.03
Post by: Admiral Nelson on April 16, 2006, 02:34:04 pm
After much delay here is Awakenings redone for version 3.03 of the Port.  I have added Lightspeed's nebulae,  skyboxes, nameplates, FS1 music and included an altered music.tbl that restores FS1 success/failure music in addition to the changes required to make the missions work with version 3.x of the Port.

PLEASE PLEASE provide feedback, bugs etc.... I'm being sent abroad again in the first week of May and won't be able to access Freespace to fix anything after then until August.

You need:

FSPort v3.03
SCP CVS of at least 3.6.8 (same as Port requirement)
3.6.8 Media VPs

Lightspeed's Nebula Pack (from http://www.penguinbomb.com/lightspeed/NaRR10_Nebulae.zip)

Awakenings voice vp (awakenings-voice.vp) is required for voice acting (obtained from FSPort website)

I want to have your babies.

I don't think FS1 has ever looked better than that fourth pic above.

This nebula pack is pretty interesting, it's not quite as nice as the ls_neb.vp, but it is more more mixed up and quite pretty..

Any chance someone is working onf Shrouding the Light to bring it up to full spec with FSport 3.0.x ? because then i can ditch my FSport 2.3 folder completely.

:wtf: Did you miss the first three?

IMHO the fourth is the worst of the lot.  The pictures seem to have been posted in order of gorgeousness.  The first one looks prettiest, the second one second-prettiest, etc.

If the HUD were out of the shot in the fourth, it would look magnificent. I personally think the angle is perfect, but to each his own I suppose.

The second and third are my favorites, the first is good but shows my least favorite angle of the Fenris, the last one is okay... but I really don't see anything exceptional about it, it's a Fenris with a really hard-to-see grey Demon in the background.

Correct me if I´m wrong, I guess I´m running into trouble if I install the nebulae outside of a mod-folder, right?

So the right setup would be to make an awakenings folder with a mod.ini pointing to mediavps AND FSPort3.0.3?
And tp put the nebulae into the awakening-folder?

yes, put the graphics files in data/effects and the stars.tbl in data/tables in that folder.

Ok, did that and what I wrote earlier. Was fun and fine to play up to the point where you have to rescue the Minnow. The other missions have to wait a bit.

In the first mission: Is it a feature or a bug that you can´t jump out under fire?

I like the female briefing voice, makes quit a difference.

Edit: Played through the rest. Just one crash, most likely because of too many features and lack of memory.  :hopping:

All in all, fine!
Thanks for the good work.

Now I have only to wait until I can play from TVW to long after Capella in one go with one pilot....

If you get STL to work with 3.0, I will build a silver-plated statue in the corner of my basement and worship you.

Gold, of course, goes to the one who gets SAH to work with SCP.

It won't be that big a deal.  It just requires some XMT files,  and fixing one mission that uses a now deprecated SEXP.  The most annoying thing is that BR changed the default weapons for many ships, instead of setting the loadouts individually in missions.

Sol A History is already done by Shadow000, but he hasn't been able to upload it yet because he has bandwidth limititations, see the updating Inferno R1 thread.

Well, there must be _something_ you don't have right... :)

Most likely stars.tbl is not present in your mod hierarchy.  Take the stars.tbl that came with Lightspeed's nebulae and drop it in the tables folder of the location in which you have placed awakenings and see.

And if Admiral Nelson's excellent advice does not solve the problem, you might consider the bonehead error I made (not that any one else would have done this): Besides the listing of what you need at the top of the first post, announcing the release, did you go to the bottom of that post, below the four beautiful screenshots, and dl the actual 3.0 vp? Someone in my house, perhaps my cat or my wife, didn't see that link and simply used the old vp along with the items listed at the top, in a shiny new folder called "awakenings." Worked perfectly except no nebula backgrounds.
 ;)

Ask a forumite.  We're re-porting it anyway; Nelson missed a few things. :)

Looks as if Fileh is down.  Unfortunately I am about 8,000 miles away from my PC at the moment and forgot the CD I had burned all my stuff on... :(

With Fileh down, perhaps someone could toss it onto Hades Combine? I want to play the pretty, redone Awakenings...  :(

(Also, apologies for thread necromancy.)

Here's the new location.  This file is temporary until we create a new official port of Awakenings.

Download from Hades Combine (http://hades-combine.com/web/index.php?ind=downloads&op=entry_view&iden=230)

While your making an "official" port, could you fix the mistake in some mission SEXPing that the mission continues after the big destroyer goes down cause all the fighters haven't been destroyed?

I'm annoyed at one mission in particular... the one where Dr. Lang's little subspace invention is used. Nothing more annoying than blowing that f'ing ship up and then getting killed by the few Dragons left flying around.  :hopping:

Why the hell can't I post spoilers anymore? Could've avoided that cryptic explanation just by using a spoiler....

OK I downloaded Awakenings , Now does this go in the Awakenings folder? Cause all I have in there is a empty data folder, I have awakenings in the main FS2 SCP folder.

Yes, the VP goes ino the Awakenings folder (it could probably go into the FSPort folder.... oh right you have that in the main folder don't you... never mind then.)
Title: Re: RELEASE: Awakenings for Port 3.03

ok I put the nebula pack in the awakenings folder, and I don't see any nebulas, Of course I die 30 seconds after the HOL ships arrive too. :)

Think I'll delete them and try again

( note to self>>>>write this stuff down for future reference<<<

Awakenings can go in the Port folder.  The mod.ini for the Port can then reference MediaVps, which is where you should put the nebulae.

Still nothing, I have to have something set wrong. Should I have a seperate folder for FS2, FS2Open and the different missions Cause I have the FSport, FS2, Awakenings, and teh FS2 port mission all int he main folder.
Title: Re: RELEASE: Awakenings for Port 3.03
Post by: Admiral Nelson on July 18, 2006, 08:49:48 pm
FSPort, with all its vps, should be in its own folder.  There is a mod.ini file in there which will allow you to select it in the launcher.

Yeah, some of the early missions seem to be of the "one wave of enemies is good, so three waves is three times as good."  Most of the later missions don't have this in place.

1) OK Admiral I made a media vps folder since I don't have one anywhere in the FS folder at all, still nothing, Is this one of those suiations where I have to start from stratch again with a fresh install of FS2?
2) the Fsport said to place it in the main freespace folder.
The only things I'm not able to run is teh Nebula pack, and in the first training missoin in FS2 theres no pilot and instructor ships in teh breif.
I'm gona make another FS2 folder and see if I deleted anything that I wasn't supposed to delete
