Title: Invitation to the guests lurking about
Post by: FUBAR-BDHR on October 21, 2008, 02:58:22 pm
I've noticed over 1500 downloads of TBP in the past month and a half with very little increased activity on the boards.  If your lurking about feel free to join the conversations.  Feedback and ideas are always welcome.

*note by Vidmaster: corrected spelling of Invitaion *

And if you're thinking about trying to make your own missions and need help if you get stuck just be sure to post. TBP's mission editor is pretty easy to use so don't let previous bad experiences with mission design put you off. :)

Thank you Fubi ! It always boosts my motivation when I am seeing I am not only doing campaign work for a dozen people at most...

By the way, what does BDHR mean ?
Beyond Da Horrible Reality ?

BDHR = Beer Drinking Hell Raisers

That 1500 is just off of ModDB and Download.com.  It doesn't count any of the torrent stuff, Hips's multi-part downloads, or the other 2-part download site.

BTW TBP is ranked #3 on download.com this week for the SCI-FI section.

To me, it's actually scary. I take a look at the download number of f.e. FH2260 and it's like WHAT? 4000 downloads?
Sure I am proud, but on the other hand...  :nervous: :nervous: :nervous:   What if I screw up badly? 4000 people will notice and be let down.

Lucky me, not all of my campaigns are that popular.

Well add another 150+ downloads in the last 2 days.  I wouldn't count on the others not being so popular.  Who knows how many thousands of downloads total of the DVD.  Each one of those downloads has your stuff on it too.   No pressure though.  :P

Fine fine, I'll Register, sheesh... heh.

I actually only discovered FreeSpace 2 about a month ago, though I saw the Babylon 5 mod and said to myself "Once I beat this game, I'm gonna head back and check this out."

And I did.

And I had a geekgasm.

I don't really have much time to learn how to make missions, though...

Anyway, it's a great mod. Some problems here and there, but they're mostly with AI and Scripts from some missions/campaigns I downloaded. My biggest gripe is that the AI masterfully uses the side and vertical thrusters in a close-range dogfight, so I get blown out of the sky rather quickly.

:welcome:

Well, I'm sure that there are plenty of other missions for you to play once you finish those - actually, there must be at least 1000 missions if you add every single one up?

hate to tell you this but the AI isn't using them. It just looks that way :)

The AI should use thrusters. It's glide that it doesn't have a clue about. Watch the Shivan Mara in FS2 and you can see it sliding.

Not yet....gotta beat the campaign first! I decided to run straight back into the arms of the Freespace series after I took a mistaken (very brief) venture into Derek Smart's Galactic Command: Echo Squad, and was pleasantly surprised to see a fully-completed Babylon 5 mod...and I figured, heck, since I'm watching the series right now, might as well join in the dog-fighting!

Loving it so far, and have already spread the word to my mates.

He's been pretty active posting on a lot of general video game-related sites lately, so it just might actually. I know he's a regular participant at BluesNews and a few of the other news-related sites.
