Title: [Prolly Solved] Linux - TBP Just not getting detected at all e_e'
Post by: Firartix on December 08, 2009, 09:37:54 am
Well that's quite simple : i can't get TBP to load.
I tried to unpack the linux archive into a /TheBabyloneProject in my FS2 directory and launch it with -mod /mediavps,/TheBabyloneProject,/TheBabyloneProject/data but there is nothing more than the FS2 Campaign in Campaign list.
I also tried to extract them in another folder, along with the FS2 Binary and the launcher, but that didn't work either.
How am i supposed to get this working :s ?
I guess i missed some simple step <_<'

Anyway, thanks in advance for your help :p

You're doing it completely wrong.
TBP is a standalone, you have to install it like it was a separate game, unrelated to FS2_Open.
In fact, it is a separate game, it just uses the same engine.

Well i tried to install it in a separate folder and copy the fs2_open binary to use it with em. But this still don't work
BTW, there are no binaries in the archive oO'

I assume the team is/has been mostly concerned with Windows users and TBP is supplied with only .exes. It should work on Linux as long as
- you acquire the builds separately
- the builds are at least 3.6.10 Final
- the builds are of the Inferno variant
- you possibly compile them yourself to be absolutely sure that they'll run properly on your particular Linux (details about FSO and Linux are in the Wiki).

And since TBP must indeed be concidered a separate standalone game, DO NOT TRY TO MIX THE MEDIAVPS WITH TBP.

Well i guess the problem is me not using the Inferno build then...
But, isn't Inferno a FS2 mod ? oO

I don't have time now, then i'll try it tomorrow <_<

Anyway, thanks for your help, this should probably work now

Inferno builds were first developed because of Inferno and its ridiculously large amount of ship classes. The ship class limit (and the weapon class limit?) has been raised notably. TBP also has a huge-arse pile of ships so using Inferno builds with it is logical.

Inferno builds also break pilot files, so always remember to create separate pilots for normal and Inferno builds. And Inferno builds cannot be used with regular FS2/FSO multiplayer.

You little disclaimer is inaccurate.  Inferno builds are required for TBP multiplayer so in this case standard builds break multiplayer.
