Heh, no oxygen = no thruster distortion. I think it shouldn't be used in standard space missions, only in atmospheric combat.

It looks cool, it adds a lot to the "feel", why would you ever want to remove it is well beyond my understanding... no matter the reason.

Yeah but he has a point. It also seems quite silly to me. Add to that the distortion from shockwaves. It's already bad enough to have sound in space and turtle speed on ships, but the sudden realization that we may be inside an ocean of water rather than in outer space everytime a nuke hits a ship is kinda baffling and stupid...

So why we won't add ponies and flying bottles of beer to this game? Ponies and beer are cool too, and nobody will ever add them to game. Why? Because they are not fitting to space combat, the same as thuster distortion. It's a cool feature, but it's not fitting everywhere. I think it should be turnable in Launcher or on FRED level. Volition broke a lot of laws of physics, but game won't be better when we break more.

BTW. Stop that. This is another pointless disciussion and it's making another offtopic.

I'd like it as a FRED option, and if there's a launcher option the FRED option should override the launcher option. Because I'd prefer to enable them in atmospheric missions and disable them in space missions in Wings, which I think would actually heighten the effect, and give a bit more differentiation between air and space, since there is precious little as there is.

refraction happens every time light passes at an angle through area with nonconstant refractory index

thrusters throw **** backwards at high temperature and at density we have no idea of; it stops glowing pretty fast but that doesn't mean it's still not there

there's no reason to assume this wouldn't change the refractory index of the area immediately behind thrusters

therefore light passing through that area can and probably will refract



thruster distortion is not only cool but also somewhat plausible
