Title: Unofficial patch for FSPort MediaVPs
Post by: Macfie on January 07, 2014, 10:15:30 am
I created a ship TBM that allows the use of the MediaVPs_2014 with the FSPort
I have it posted on gamefront for anyone thats interested and am waiting for approval on freespacemods.net

Do we do anything to the mod.ini file?

Yes change mediavps_3612 to Mediavps_2014

This worked rather nicely. Sometimes I feel bad about being here for so long without having picked up the slightest bit of fredding or modding ability.

usually this is a function of the server you are working from or the internet access program you are using.  For some reason the gamefront server is denying you access.  The link is still working.

I've attached a copy of the upgrade.

Does this also work with Silent Threat: Reborn? ST:R's mod.ini references both fsport-mediavps and mediavps_3612 so can I just copy that tbm file to ST:R's data\tables and change the mod.ini or is there more to it?

Yes that should work for STR or any FSPort based mod.

Just to make sure, do I have to put the table file in a folder named data\tables inside the folder of every mod that references the fsport-mediavps?

PS: The gamefront link didn't work for me either, maybe the people that can't use it aren't that few... Anyway the attachment solved that.

The file only has to be put in the data table of the fsport-mediavps.

I also added a link for moddb to the original post.

What mod are you playing?  Do you have the patch installed in fsport-mediavps\data\tables?

Please post a debug log.

See this thread for how to post a debug log.

@ Macfie, I posted in the support subforum with my command line and someone else helped me out, and I'm all set now. I had everything set up correctly, I just hadn't restarted the launcher, so it was still pointing to the nonexistent 3.6.12 MVP folder. All is well, I am just dumb.

Inspired by the remaster of "Shrouding the light" and the new release "Frontlines" I finally decided to combine FSPort-mediaVPs and all the FSport mods with the MediaVPs_2014. However I find that players would benefit from one additional table file, that makes FSPort's in-game HUD look smaller and cleaner. What it does is that it overrides the FSPort-MediaVPs' own hud table file and let's the new Adaptable HUD code in the newer FSO build do its job. It also fixes the bad alignment on the lower-right side of the screen.

Comparison:

BEFORE (http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/3336350678949231459/53B2C6E68E0AEF389B1371C9903B5190F1B9E3B9/)
AFTER (http://koti.mbnet.fi/olzie/Moebius/FSO_bughunt/screen0135.png)

I have attached the table file in this post, even though it's really simple. In order to use it, you have to put in the previously mentioned mod\data\tables directory.

NOTICE that you can also use this same table file for mods that don't use MediaVPs at all to get nicer HUDs. I have confirmed this with TVWP: Unification War, Inferno:R1 and Babylon Project\Zathras.

The downside: For monitors that have larger vertical pixel amounts than 1200 the HUD text can get a little too small. So If you have a 1440p, 1600p or 2160p monitor, be cautious.

OK, I checked the links for GameFront and Moddb and both are working.  Freespacemods.net website is down.   There is also a copy of the unofficial patch attached to one of the posts.

Code: [Select]
-mod fsport-mediavps,fsport,mediaVP's_2014
Well, that's not going to work. The folder name should be "mediavps_2014".

ah I think that was me while i was trying to fiddle with it trying to get it to work  :nervous: ...it now loads without errors  ;)

It looks like some of ship models haven't updated though, such as the Apollo, Valkyrie & Anubis and a few others. looks like they have reverted back to retail spec. which looks really odd when its next to the new models that are working...

You do not have the FSPort and the FSPort media VPs in the proper folder.

Found root pack 'C:\Games\FreeSpace2\fsport-mediavps\odeon_fs1.vp'
Found root pack 'C:\Games\FreeSpace2\fsport-mediavps\fsport3_4.vp'
Found root pack 'C:\Games\FreeSpace2\fsport-mediavps\sparky_hi_fs1.vp'
Found root pack 'C:\Games\FreeSpace2\fsport-mediavps\stu_fs1.vp'
Found root pack 'C:\Games\FreeSpace2\fsport-mediavps\tango_fs1.vp'
Found root pack 'C:\Games\FreeSpace2\fsport-mediavps\tango_hi1_fs1.vp'
Found root pack 'C:\Games\FreeSpace2\fsport-mediavps\tango_hi2_fs1.vp'
Found root pack 'C:\Games\FreeSpace2\fsport-mediavps\tango_hi3_fs1.vp'
Found root pack 'C:\Games\FreeSpace2\fsport-mediavps\tango_hi4_fs1.vp'
Found root pack 'C:\Games\FreeSpace2\fsport-mediavps\tango_hi5_fs1.vp'
Found root pack 'C:\Games\FreeSpace2\fsport-mediavps\warble_fs1.vp'
All these files should only be in the FSPort folder you appear to have them in both.

This is most likely the cause of your problems.

removing those files from the fsport-mediavps file breaks the game completely

This file needs to be in the fsport folder

You appear to be missing the fsport-mediavps altogether.

Found root pack 'C:\Games\FreeSpace2\fsport\mv_fsport.vp'
Found root pack 'C:\Games\FreeSpace2\fsport\mv_fsport_music.vp'
These two files need to be in the fsport-mediavps file

You may want to go to this post: ( http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=84358.0 )
and check your installation.
Most of your problems have come from the fact that the fsport and fsport-mediavps are incorrectly installed.

Honestly, I would just delete FSPort and the FSPort-MediaVPs and get them from the installer, which will ensure a clean install. Once you are sure they are working.. THEN you can get this unofficial patch working.

Thanks for the assistance guys, I've got it up and running with no problems now.

Macife/mjn
I have read that thread already several times trying to rectify the mess id gotten into but it is also why I got into the mess in the first place as its not overly clear on what to do for the new 2014 media vps....I wonder if someone could update it to have correct process for the new vps and reinstate the all in one installer again as its crossed out on there, thats why I ended up trying to do it manually too.

admittedly, i'm feeling slightly retarded that its taken me this long to get my head round it  :P

You'll need to bug Goober5000 and Yarn to update FSPort to support the new MediaVPs, officially.

I made a zip file that contains both the new ship table file and the new HUD file. Since apparently message attachments get deleted automatically after certain amount of time, I decided to provide a more permanent download link this time.

Here (http://koti.mbnet.fi/olzie/Moebius/FSO_bughunt/FSPort_mediavps_2014_compat.zip) you go. Just put these 2 tbm files inside the ZIP to the previously mentioned fsport-mediavps\data\tables.

Here is a fixed comparison, since the last link for old HUD got wiped out:

Old HUD (http://koti.mbnet.fi/olzie/Moebius/FSO_bughunt/screen0153.png)
New HUD (http://koti.mbnet.fi/olzie/Moebius/FSO_bughunt/screen0135.png)

The same disclaimer stands as before, do NOT use this hud file if your monitor has 1440 or more vertical pixels. Otherwise these non-scales HUD elements get too small.
