BETA: Flames of War - Coming of the Storm
Finally, it's here.

3 files:
FOW_COTS1 - contains maps, models, hud, effects, sounds
FOW_COTS2 - contains insignias, interface, cbanims, voice, music
FOW_COTCS_C - mission and table files

Extra- a few more loading screens

To save space FS1 music is not included (aside from 2-3 tracks), so I'd recommend getting it from FS post. Campaign should work without it tough.

TEST VERSION FOR GETTING RID OF BUGS



NOTE TO CAMPAIGN MAKERS:
The campaign includes the very latest versions of all of my ships.
Minor tweaks to increase eye-candy and performance have bene done on nearly everything.

I think I'll wait for a less buggier version, as I don't want to be bugged by bugs in the game.

well, i'm trying to help, because i loved FOW:1 (felt like the FS2 equivelent of silent threat, in the respect that V made it.)

EDIT: actually, trash, you didn't include the Aeglos at all. Good thing i already have it  somewere...

Oh..crapola... I put two version of the Nareos installation instead of Nareos AND Aeglos :P Silly me.
Here's the missing .pof. Just plop it into the COTS/Data/models

Ok, i got to mission 4, the one next to... jupiter?  :wtf:
And first off, the pirate fighters are very unbalanced. They all have the speed and manueverability of a perseus, and about the shield strength of a fenrises hull. They're uglies, they're supposed to break down all the time. They're supposed to equal less than the sum of their parts, and, above all, they're supposed to have super weak hulls to the the way they're constructed. Just saying.

Mission 1:

this one seemed ok, aside from the feeling of having to scramble over to the freighters to scan them before they warp out. (they don't, but it feels like they will if you don't hurry!)

Mission 2:

Ok, i COULD NOT beat this mission. Even on very easy, all my wingmen except speedy (and by the way, the campaign doesn't seem as character involved as the last. That was one of my favorite parts) died as soon as our force met the pirate escort fighters. And i had no TAG missles, just rockeyes and tempests (only 40 tempests in my bottom bank? :wtf:  the mymidon could carry like 160...) so i failed every time. after several frustrating minutes, i managed to get away from the fighters. Then got klled by the Leviathan as i tried to follow orders.

Next couple of times i tried, a few hercs survived, and killed the leviathan before it could be disarmed, so again, i failed, regardless of not tagging the freighters. And also, the kill all fighters bonus objective says 'mission objective text', or whatever it is if you don't edit it.

Mission 3:

Again, super overpowered enemy craft (the kulas seemed to have unlimited afterburner, and again, are impossible to hit) and i had to use ALL my missles to take out the tower. Then, i couldn't get a break long enough to rearm. And could there be a little longer of a delay, and another 'stand clear' message, before the blade fires it's beam at the door? i almost got fried there! I had some more complaints, can't remeber, except the wing of friendly bombers would not stop trying to eliminate all the asteroid bases turrets, and came very close to destroying it. down to 3% hp before the mission ended.

Mission 4:

All i did was park next to the nav bouy and turn on time compression. The mission plays itself until the kulas come. Are you supposed to stop everything? Because they came after  me, i destroyed them, then time compressed another 15minutes, nothing happened, i left, and there was no debriefing. uhm....

The mission 2 has some strange bug I can't track. You're supposed to start off with TAG-A's but you're not. The fighter can carry them (checked it twice) and upon checking in FRED, he does have them assigned as initial loadout (and the loadout is locked). Still, the weapon selection reverts to default on mission start.


I don't get it. I can try to use the change-weapon SEXP on mission start as a workaround, but this is honestly one bug I really don't get how it's even possible for it to happen. Research into this problem continues.


As for the rest:

mission 3 is supposed to be very hard.
The small number of missiles is no bug - all fighters have reduced missile capacity, but missiles are almost twice as strong as before. 2 of your wingman shouldn't die (they're guardianed), so I guess the event didn't trigger.


As for mission 4 - once you're told to stay put, don't move an inch till the enemy fighters go away.

One more thing - this campaign has a completley different balance than stock FS2. The AI is meaner for one thing. Enemy weapons do more damage. All in all, it's designed to be more difficult.
I'll wait a bit for a few more people to comment on the balance of the Kulas fighter. I'll nerf it if it's needed.

Eh? That only gives the initial status IIRC. I don't recall doing it for FOW1 and it works like a charm...

This should fix mission2 (and I also made the Kulas a tad weaker)

I'm playing and fixing errors as I go..

Couldn't do much testing tonight (RL stuff), but I already made a few smaller fixes.

I will upload a patch with fixes when I bundle up a few. Later tomorrow.

Also, the story kindof feels... empty. It feels like you're just dumped into the missions. All the briefings are there, and theres plenty, but its like... they dont SAY anything... your just told to shoot this, then that, then this, and even then, the instructions are kinda sketchy...

that data loss hit me harder than I though. I found that a few things were outdated, lacking some minor tweaks, but critical tweaks all the same 8tweaks that could case problems).

OK, I uploaded a fix and a new COTS_C file.
I also decided not to pack the missions and tables into a VP - it's easier for people to edit them when they're more acessible. (consequently, you can delete the COTS_C.vp once you extract the new files)

Yeah, definately re-start the campaign.
I'm sorry for all this ca**, but this campaign has been plagued by trouble from day 2. If I had dedicated testers I wouldn't have even released a beta.

I was planning on adding a bit more chatter into the first several missions (the latter missions got more), but the development was pretty..chaotic. Any and all feedback is welecome Titan. If I can improve/fix something, I will.
