Title: Ejection Seats
Post by: NeoHunter on March 21, 2001, 12:10:00 am
How come all GTVA fighters and bombers have no ejection seats? Makes you wonder if the GTVA values their pilots.

That cannot be the answer though. X-Wing had ejection seats.

Well... suppose  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/v.gif) had put in ejection seats. They would have to put in lots of work to add the effects and animations of an ejection, and then what would happen after you ejected? You don't have a space suit on, so I assume your entire cockpit would have to come with you. So then a support ship would probably have to pick you up and jump out with you... it's a lot of extra work that  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/v.gif) would have to do, and it wouldn't add that much to gameplay - would it?  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Okay. Imagine this. If you knew you were about to be blown apart by a swarm of 8 Hornets, you eject. The cockpit most probably ejects with you inside like the Wing Commander movie. Now, if the enemy decides to shoot you with the ejection pod, you die and have to start the game all over again as a new pilot. If you get rescued by a support ship, you getr sent back to base, reprimanded and then sent back into battle. What you think?

No ejection seats please. It really wouldn't add anything to the game, and would sort of distract from some of the tension.

Ejecting in any game is just another way to lose the mission. If things got hopeless, I've always had more going Kamikaze than trying to eject.

Know what? I just got an idea.

If you fail to destroy an enemy capital ship, that same capital may appear again as reinforcement in another mission. A little of playing around with the SEXPs and it can be done.

I'd like to see them possibly for other purposes.  Something like if you're flying a ship loaded with helios torpedoes and you're the last bomber left, and you need to take out the destroyer, just kamakaze the the thing and eject before you hit(the cockpits should be equipped with minature jump drives the will at least clear you from the battle in a random direction on a one shot deal).  Great for a heroic last-ditch effort, and possibly earning a medal and promotion.

They certainly scared the s**t out of the americans and took a few boats with them.

I remember seeing a show about it, one of the deck officers on an american vessel noted how troop morale was devastated when they watched a 'zero plunge into the top of a nearby vessel and practically tear the front section away from the main hull.

Scary stuff.

If I were the commander of the armed forces, I would say it was a waste of valuable men and planes.

Anyway, it was the Japanese mistake to ever attack the Americans at Pearl Habour.

If I remember correctly, the Americans were not in a war with the Japanese.

Could it have been the British?
Title: Ejection Seats

Umm....let me see now......

World War 2 was split into two different places of the world. Europe and Asia.

Europe we have the Germans as the bad guys. The British and other Europe countries were fighting the Germans.

In Asia, the Japanese were making a push into China, down to Singapore. The British were there too. The British couldn't do much because the big cannons were facing the sea away from Malaysia but the Japanese came through Malaysia to Singapore. Also, I could be wrong here but the Japanese force was just too fierce to be stopped and the Bristish surrendered, so Singapore became Japanese property for the next 2 to 3 years. Good thing my dad was not born in that era. It was hell I heard.

Anyway, the Americans had a naval base in Pearl Harbour too. Guess the Japanese saw that as a threat if they wanted to conquer the whole Asia. So, they attacked. That got the Americans' attention all right.

The rest you know. Hitler died. How he died nobody can be certain. Some say he commited suicide. The German forces could not survive the harsh weather conditions of the Soviet Union. Japan had a taste of 2 nuclear bombs. End of the war in 1945.
