This build is an experimental build of FS2_Open I've been working on. You'll need to download it and unpack it to your Diaspora folder. Once you've done that simply click on the build and play as normal (It might be slower than usual since it's a debug build).
Once you get to the point where you feel something should have happened press the ~ key (It should be the one above Tab) and the Q key at the same time. (You can do this at several points in the mission if you wish).
The game will output data to the mission.log file in Diaspora/Data. Attach this file to your next post and we should be able to see what is going wrong when you play the mission.
For anyone else who is interested, this is an implementation of Axem's suggestion to have a key press which outputs the state of all events in the mission to the mission log. It's largely untested but if you've got an event that isn't working and you want to know why, this is even quicker than all of the other mission log features I added previously.
It also features another mission log feature which allows you output both the current event and the one from the last frame if they have changed. I've not tested this at all. Feel free to play with it if you want.
