Seriously, nobody lurking out there want to sign on? I got three empty slots for anybody. We got a Sniper, a Support, and an Assault up for grabs, first come first serve!

I'll maintain my status as Interceptor pilot.  The XCOM project needs a Scotty at the helm of a fighter.

I think I'll hop in and go for the Support. XCOM can always use more medics.

Re: HLPX-COM: Enemy Within (Spoonzer 3: Hydraulic Boogaloo)
Okay then, time to move forward again while I'm sick as a dog.

We have a UFO over Nunavat headed for the US border, scramble Hobbie.

Quote
Central, Hobbie. Target has detected me and is going hypersonic for the US border.

Quote
Central, Hobbie. Minor damage to the bird. Target is down. He went in over downtown Winnipeg. Repeat, the UFO is down in a populated area.

Quote
Remain on-station. Strike is inbound.

Now we have some of the lovingly detailed devastation of an Enemy Within urban map.

Quote
Operation Skynet, Winnipeg, Canada, 11:48pm, September 10th
Deployed: Micheal "Gispy D" Sanderson (MEC-3, mission commander), Admiral "Marauder" Ralwood (MEC-3), Lightning-1 (Spoonzer-3P), Lightning-2 (Spoonzer-3P), Lightning-3 (Spoonzer-3P), Lightning-4 (Spoonzer-3P)

"Skynet? Seriously? Somebody was being cute about this."

"It's the rise of the machines, Ral. Annette said good things about the Goliaths."

EXTERMINATE. EX-TERM-IN-ATE.

"Cloakies. Against us. This is not your day."

You are superior in only one respect! You are better at dy-ing!

"Muton heavies! That's serious!"

Danger, target is escaping!

Muton//animal is deceased.

ASSUME THE POSITION.

Love is shooting alien meatbags in the head at ten meters.

Floaters do not look up for danger. Just like humans.

EX-TERM-IN-ATE!

SON-OF-A-THAL!

"Target down. The SHIVs clean house pretty good."

HURT//MAIM//KILL

Hostile decloaking. De-stroy!

"Sectoids, red ones. Today is still not your day."

My vis-ion is NOT imp-aired!

Suffffffeeeerrrr The basic psionic attack, Mindfray, does damage and reduces Will and Aim. Late in the game the aliens are aware they don't have the moxie to try and mind-control your soldiers straight up and will usually attempt a Mindfray/MC combo.

"Oh come on, Annette hits harder than that when she has nightmares in the next room over!"

"Target down."

"Surprise MEC, sucker."

"Central, Strike. We're done here. I think we can call the Lightning a success."

I wouldn't really say a Lightning is a great replacement for a live soldier, but they're tougher than they look and they do offer flight capabilities in a more resilient package than our Archangel suits. Their plasma cannon are about equal to versions we've developed for soldiers, but aren't as powerful as a P-beam or an Alloy Cannon. Or for that matter a PlasDMR in the right hands.

And I'd rather work with Lightnings than rookies.

The UFO went down real late, so the buildings it hit were empty, but still...that could have been an amazingly ugly mess. As it is, nobody was hurt. Six or seven hours later, and it would have wiped out several companies.

Yo, Commander?  You mispelled 'Nunavut.'  Just saying...

...no, no, I don't think I need latrine duty.  This is not the psionic you're looking for...

Sadly, I'm not actually a Canadian, and I can't always trust the maps on Wikipedia.

At this point I'm expecting to never have to deploy to Canada again, too, just to spite us both.

You can roll me from an Interceptor into one of the ground-pounders if you like. Ground-pounding seems more glorious anyway. :P

Because I'm soon going to be retiring them from service I've been checking the Interceptor kill totals.

I'm actually surprised, they've seen a fair bit of action. None of the individual airframes have more than four kills, but every single one of them appears to have shot down a UFO and more likely two.

There are significantly fewer UFOs in Enemy Unknown/Within than there are in UFO Defense.  Not sure if I like that or not.  I certainly miss my 50+ aerial victories.

Yes...but Star was out for further augmentation when the mission came up.

On-Site: Trashman "Walker" (sniper)

"Move! Trash, we're on the ground."

"Good! We've got a lot **** here!"

"Target terminated."

"Missed, damn...there!"

"Nope, that was mine."

"Fine, fine, have the damn kill."

PEW! But no hit. Actually to be honest it wasn't even clear who he fired at here. Could have been Annette or Trash.

"This is why your vest should come up to your neck, genius."

"AND AS FOR YOU!"

"Target is toasty."

"Damn." No playing Pistolero this mission.

"I have him."

"Another! Winged him."

"Target terminated. When will you all learn that you can't cope with the P-beam?"

"Trash, you got one moving across your field of view! DAMN! Missed him!"

"I have it-merde, he's still up!"

"Not anymore."

"And the other one." While a covert operative snipers get to use their normally rifle-only skills like Double Tap. I'm not sure if that's intentional.

"Target is history."

"There! Wait-MP, isn't your gun supposed to be a one-shot?"

"At this distance the sabots don't fly true. I just nicked him."

"Missed."

"Okay, let's try this out...BURN."

"Holy ****, is he bleeding from his-"

"Everything? Oui, Star, he is. Welcome to the combat psyker club."

"Woah! Get the hell down from there!"

"Your turn MP."

"Die."

"Not quite. Still, you did it."

"Central, request permission to field-test the weapon."

Quote
Kind of a crappy target, Mongoose. Permission is granted.

"Firing." Blaster launcher awaaaaaay!

"Uh...where's the body?"

"Forget that, where's the damn car!"

"One left. Firing on the fuel tank."

"Central, Strike, data upload complete?"

Confirm Strike. Pack up and come on home.

This was the first time I used my psyker gift offensively...

Prior to this I only dabbled with it frivolously, leveraging my extra awareness during hand to hand sparing sessions with Annette or goofing off with Ryan.  I don't know what I expected, but it was distinctly bizarre torching that Exhalt bastard's cerebrum.  Don't get me wrong, I've run enough covert ops against Exalt to question killing him, but the act itself and what it represents is little scary.    I've already got souped up alien DNA and **** in my body.  I have vision that puts apex predators to shame, can leap tall buildings and disappear like some damn specter from folk tales, but now I can reach out and snuff someone out with my damn mind.  I recognize their is a tremendous amount of capability concentrated in my person and Doc Vahlen believes we are only just starting to unlock the potential of these powers.

Most of the members of our team where culled from military special forces but I was UEI back in the Guardia Civil.  Perhaps because my roots are law enforcement I'm a little more worried about what comes after.  We are leaping blindly into the realms of trans-humanism in order to save humanity, but what happens to humanity after we've won?  Will we be mature enough to handle it?

I'm reasonably sure that over the course of three (now four) LPs as an interceptor pilot I've got to be getting close to 50. :P
