It isn't just the Orff... its all of the ships with the model, although it still shows up fine in the radar box
-
1) try tinkering with -jpgtga
2) it's the GTC Fenris, not the GTF Fenris.
-
what is your graphics card?

ATI Radeon Xpress 1100. I have -jpgtga on. This is the only ship it does this to.
-
Hmm. If nothing else works, re-install the latest graphics driver.
-
Do you by any chance have -clipdist on?

no, but I tried that, and it made everything except for my hud and the stars invisible. My targeting reticule showed nothing, my lasers werent appearing

Could it be a corrupt .pof?

Could it be a corrupt .pof?
I used the online installer, if I ran the installer again would it only replace the file if it was corrupted, or would it download the whole game again?

Should just re-download the piece, if you delete everything before:
NAME
.OGG Cutscenes
in FreeSpace2/Installer/installedversions.txt
-
Before we assume it's a corrupt .pof why not assume it's a corrupt .IBX?
I can't remember off hand which is the correct one for the Fenris but if you just go to Data\Cache and mediavps\Data\Cache and delete anything with the word cruiser in it you'll definitely get it.
Then just run the game and see what happens when it recreates them.
-
I did what that guy said, but the installer didnt re-download the VPSs, it just skipped them.
I just tried karajorma, it still recreated it as a messed up version.
edit: is there any way to only delete the one VP (I mean from the HDD)? So then the installer would have to re-download it?

It looks to be the latest version of the fenris (cruiser01.pof incidentally), so it can't be that. The other weird thing is that it's chopped off specific polys rather than something you might get with a missing texture.
Is it always a hole in that particular shape, or does it shift around with every frame, every mission or every game start? Also, can you fly through the missing bits?

I can't fly through. it gives a collision thingy and it starts flaming from there. As far as I can tell, it stays right there.

Well, if collisions are working, then surely the model must be more or less OK? I mean, FS must be able to see it in some fashion. Did you change video drivers recently? If so, try dropping back to the old versions you were using and see if that fixes it.

actually, I just updated it not a few days before I got FS2. Something like dropping back wouldn't slow down my computer or anything, would it? And how would I find the drivers, since I think ATI would only have the newest ones. Thanks in advance

I dont kmnow if anyone noticed this but, dude, the Orf is disabled not the turret. Yes its true, teh turret is 14 %. But its saying the ship is disabled, no tthe turret..

thats not the problem. Notice the giant missing part of the orff.

:ha: I caught you without your color on!

The witch is on HLP, I'll go tell the folks over at SG.
-
WOAH ! Thats one helluva wierd glitch !
did you try re-installing? the first thing that springs to mind for me is a corrupt jpeg or engine.
-
If the collisions are being detected, then it most likely means, as BW says - no problems with the POF itself because the CPU is correctly reading the locations of all the polys of the ship. The way it's chopped up only polys means it can't be to do with the texture or distance culling either, and by the sounds of it it's not an IBX issue.
That leaves very few possible causes. :\
What SCP build are you using there? I'd suggest you try using a different one - like maybe this one, (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,48407.0.html) and see if the same thing happens.
If there's still no change, the only other possability I can think of is that it's something wrong with your graphics card (which is after all only an integrated card) or drivers.
Rolling back to older drivers shouldn't cause any significant problems for your system, and if it has no difference you can always just upgrade to the latest again. The older ATI drivers for the Xpress 1100 can be found here: http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/integratedprevious-xp.html
