Here are two new screenshots. One that shows the Earth and Moon backgrounds, and another that shows the new shockwave .ani.
Sorry I couldn't get a screen of the Vulture shotgun, but it moves to fast. I might slow it down and take a screen later though.

VERY nice. :yes: This is good. Only two screenshots, and both of them are action shots. :yes: :yes: The shockwave looks very cool.
Nitpick: Change "squadron" to "squadrons", because it's plural. :)
It might be a good idea to have several different background pictures of the Earth and the Moon. In the Unification War there will be many battles around the two, and it would be nice to show different locations, and perhaps different phases. ;7
EDIT: Go back and double-check the Mustang Alpha HUD icons. They're supposed to be centered, but they look jammed into the upper-left corner of where they're supposed to be. Make sure they're the right size.

I'm keeping it as "squadron". A squadron is Alpha, Beta, and Gamma wings. Delta and Epsilon are sometimes part of your squadron, but usually they aren't permanently.

I need to edit the HUD though, as you may have noticed, the "squadron" is going over the little text area.
I'm trying to fix that shield icon.
Don't expect too much outta me, I'm off my computer on school days, except the last day of the week ( Today starts Thanksgiving vacation!)

By the way, I have the beta version of fs2_open with ballistic primary support, but I can't post as an attachment - too big, apparently. You want me to email it to you? I won't be able to do any code editing over break, but if you have time and motivation you might want to check it out and fool around with modding.

Everyone, this is a beta. It's not bug-free, and it doesn't have HUD support, so you can't see how much ammo you have left - you have to remember. So :ha:. :p
Don't worry, I'll post a public link as soon as I iron out the bugs...:nervous:

While this is out in the public, I want several opinions on one subject: How much ammo should we give the player? Like 1000 bullets sounds good, but then there are no support ships so whatever you get off your carrier is what you're stuck with.

Mebbe 10,000 for a standard weapon. Go play a FS2 mission and check your stats at the end. How many primary shots did you fire? etc.
Keep in mind that we should have enough ammo to finish a standard mission with bullets to spare, but the player can't waste them.
Some possible exceptions are a strike mission where you have a limited amount of ammo to do whatever damage you can, or a heavy assault mission where your ship is specially modified to carry more ammo than usual.
EDIT: Also, there are different types of weapons. A machine gun thing, for example, fires at a very rapid rate and has lots of ammo but the bullets don't do much individually. Or there could be a heavy assault gun that fires fewer bullets at a slower rate that do more damage. Etc.

What were you trying to do? Fire at a capital ship?
Try some other stuff. See if other stuff works. :)

No, that was what happened when I tried to run the .exe. I ran it, then it beeped at me and opened that.

Works with the normal data. Now I just have to get it to accept the UW data. Anyway, what was that string of stuff to put in the ships.tbl? I know you put "Ballistic" as a flag in the weapons table.

Here it is again. In the ship entry, right below Default Pbanks, add
$Ballistic Primaries:
+Pbank Capacity: ( a, b )
or just
+Pbank Capacity: ( a )
depending on if you want one or two primaries.
In the weapon entry, add
$Rearm Rate: x
in the appropriate place, and "ballistic" in the list of flags.

I can't get it to work with the UW war files. I think I might need to package them up and upload them so that you can see what is wrong, cause I've been deleting, redoing, and generally changing everything all day and I can't get it to work. Always gives me at a different error message.

Well, again, I don't guarantee that it's bug free. Remember, though, that it won't display your ammo count.
Can you copy&paste somewhere (like into a PM) all the error messages you've been getting?

No. Whatever I do, I get a different error message. I haven't been able to even run the .exe with anything excep the unmodified :V: tables. I get error messages about weapons, ships, ai, blah-blah-blah. Far to many to send in any number of PMs.
Oh, by the way, it does work with everything except the tables. I can do anything except use modified tables.

Well, I won't be able to fix it until I get back to college. Even then, I'll be studying for finals, so I won't be able to do much.
EDIT: If you could copy&paste all the error messages into a text file (like in Notepad) and then email it to me, it would really help when I get to debugging this thing. :) But you don't have to if you don't want to.

Bobboau doesn't have my code, and I don't have my code either (I'm at home now). The only thing Bobboau might be able to help with is that bug in ModelRead.cpp. I can't say more without knowing what the errors are.

That's a better planet (a lot better - good job :yes: ) but it's not Earth. :) We need Earth, in various orientations and phases - not random blue planets.
Nitpick: The area on the planet after the terminator should be dark, not transparent. If you load it up in the mission, you might see stars there, which would be not good. :)

Since this seems to be the background thread, that pack you requested is away - sorry, no earths in it, but a fair bit of other stuff - tell me if you need anything else.

That is an excellent background pack BW. I'm really shocked. I'm now working on the TVWP, and AP, so I'll probably put them in later tonight.

Here's a "render" I did in Paintshop Pro 7, Modelview32, and a few other progs. There are 68,728 colors, not that anybody (including me) cares. It shows my darkened Apollyon, and the new sunglow I'm using for the Sol sun. It also shows a destroyer (Early destroyers didn't have fighterbays) and some Vasudans. The destroyer is late UW era, but everything else is in the V-T War. This picture shows the first, and last time the Vasudans actually entered the Sol system during the 14 Year War.

You need to work on your transparency and layout, but otherwise OK.

Too many stars. And you should make the skin of the Apollo bomber a bit lighter and make the whole thing the same color. The black and grey looks funky. not to mention that the model should be somewhat different than the Original Apollo (Extended cockpit)

It's just a reskin, so no new model. Somebody else can do that. I am working haveing the same color body.

NO NO NO! The Reliant is supposed to be the UW destroyer (used into the T-V war), and it had a fighterbay, so how do you get this?!?
If you really want to include that model (I highly discourage it), use the older-looking reskin and say it's a really old destroyer, that when built, didn't have a fighterbay. It is phased out after the UW ends.
Or - here's what I think is a better idea. Use the Orion skin, and have this ship be a secret strike ship for the GTI, during the T/V war. It is only seen in covert GTI missions. This way you can give it some good specs. :)

When is that Reliant going to be done?
Anyway, I thought the current skin looked more old. I was going to have it be a really old destroyer, like, 2250 or something (That's seventy years before the UW). I am trying to put some Faustus skins on it, those look really old.

aldo's working on the Reliant...but he's got exams, so I wouldn't expect it soon. PM him if you wish.
Mebbe your really-old-2250-ish destroyer idea would work. But please try to discuss new ideas in the internal forum before publishing them as hard-and-fast done.

I wanted the public's opinion on the warship skins. Now that I have some opinions, then I can work privatly.
I forgot about exams. I have a few major test, but they are all at the end of the year.
