Re: A celebration of Freespace
Wing Commander Saga is WC3-era and doesn't have the Dralthi I/II. This model was custom made by Scooby_Doo for a WCS mod I'm making based on the first two WC games called Wing Commander Advance Guard.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Seriously though, that specular needs some help, though the model is actually great rendition of the ship.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Are you talking about the fact that the specular map is grayscale (a design decision based on the way WCS Prologue looked and as a way to give WCAG a different aesthetic from FreeSpace), or some other aspect?

Re: A celebration of Freespace
The cockpit in particular is far too bright and shiney, but as a whole I think having any shine to it is a little...counterintuitive. While WC games predate shine being reasonable, neither did they present themselves as games that would have shiney spaceships. These were combat craft on the front lines, and they didn't have either the desire or the time to shine.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
To me FS models feel somewhat primitive without some degree of shine. Perhaps if there was a materials system and perhaps some extra refinements to the lighting system a fully matte model would look better. At any rate for a lot of WCAG's models, the shinemap gives the texture a lot of extra depth. I process the maps to have rather high contrast, leading to the appearance of flecks and streaks of dirt and grime coating a formerly gleaming painted or metallic surface.

EDIT: This version is not entirely matte, but less shiny:

Cache bitmaps on the other hand would leave bitmaps loaded into memory and thus reserve bmpman slots which are very limited already. In the worst case scenario you may hit bmpman limits when this flag is used because bitmaps would remain in memory even if mission doesn't use them.

* Aardwolf 's ears perk up

Unless it's been changed since back when I was working on the RTS mod... disabling that flag may cause some undesirable behavior in scripts.

When enabled, calling the script function to load the same texture multiple times just retrieves the texture that's already in memory. When it's disabled, it will reload the texture every time. That is, at least as far as scripting is concerned, it wasn't just a matter of caching textures between missions, it was a matter of caching textures in general.

Maybe just sloppily written scripts that are affected, but it might cause scripts to run well for some people and badly for others. Consider that a heads-up.
Only posting this here because the post which got my attention was here. If this ought to be its own topic, go ahead and split...

Which recording software did you use?
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

Yeah, and where am I supposed to find 300 bucks when I live with 10€ a week ? I don't think I can live 2 years and a half without eating, thank you.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
... yeah, I guess relatively speaking most of us probably are swimming in a lot more than 10 euroes a week.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
€10?... that's like... 2 hours on most of our nations minimum wage? >.>
