Not really.  Steele's already managed to cloak the Imperieuse, who's to say he can't already do it with the Atreus?

Err, no ?

Last time I checked, you don't need cloaking tech to hide a ship in the vastness of space.
People are stupid, therefore anything popular is at best suspicious.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
I think it could be made to look better if it took into account the surface normal of the fragment (something like less distortion in x/y when the surface is pointing at the view point in x/y, so in other words use the x/y components of the surface normal in camera space as a scalier for the distortion in those directions) that way as that giant metal chunk swings around it'll have all sorts of interesting movement of the background image when the cloaking effect is at it's height. also camera space depth could be a useful scalar so things that are closer, maybe would have the background enlarged or something.

Wow, my Steele-like tactical genius must have slipped that joke right over your head. :doubt:

Last time I checked, tactical geniuses don't need fancy technological toys to win, since they have the tactical genius thing on their side already.
People are stupid, therefore anything popular is at best suspicious.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Well tactical geniuses would use what fancy technological toys they have at their disposal to their greatest potential.

Re: A celebration of Freespace
Clearly someone here doesn't like playing with dark ships :P
If it looks like you're playing some version of Aliens' space shots or some other really moody dark (and by dark I mean can't see **** and is entirely pointless) film, then you're doing it wrong :P

Cloaking Karunas, *****es: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OvV0RzpGN4

Experimenting with mjn.mixael's cloaking script?

If Admiral Calder had the balls, he would put one of those on the Toutatis, cloak the destroyer, move it right in the middle of a battlefield and de-cloak. Should give the Alliance a pretty scare for a few seconds.

Actually that is not mine at all. That is using Valathil's cloaking code! (Making my FRED example totally moot)

Because that mission has no ambient lighting, and only one sun.

WiH in general forced me to turn on emissile light. When the only indication of a ship is a big splotch of black against starfield.pof, I end up taking a ton of damage ramming things.

I thought I did make sure that antennae on Steve-O's ships all have proper glowpoints.

And even with emissive light off and ambient factor at 35 they're still for the most part, quite visible...

Re: A celebration of Freespace
I have my ambient factor at 0, yet I didn't had any colision problems aside from the aforementioned antennae (which is why I made sure that all glowpoints on them work as they should).

Do you have a flashlight duct taped to your Prom S?
