Hi, I'm new here. I registered at Vwatch a while back and came across this site after reading Karajoma's FAQ. Anyways.
On the topic of warship names, especially Terran names (actually Terran nomenclature from weapons to fighters to ships), Volition seems to have drawn a disproportionate number of names, especially for plot important ships, from Classical history.
All 3 new Terran warship classes in the game have names rooted from Greek Mythology. Hecate, Deimos and Aelous are all Greek dieties. In addition there are memorable ships like the Belisarius, the Actium, the Lysander, the Messana, and the Carthage. Back in FS1, the Galatea is a reference to a nymph of greek legend and Orion, Fenris and Leviathan are figures in greek/classical mythology. Even the powerful(?) Colossus is named after one of the ancient wonders, the Colossus of Rhodes.
There are exceptions like the Iceni (???I thought Vasudan ships had Egyptian nomenclature???) or several NTF ships that got blown to bits in "Kings Gambit" bot in briefing and the actual mission, but on the whole they are (80%) Classical names.
Anyways, It would be nice if future mission makers keep this in mind. I know a lot of people like to indulge and create ship names with dark destructive and impressive names. But keeping it 'greek' so to speak helps add an extra layer of believability and atmosphere to the missions.
