Possible source of inspiration
Possible source of inspiration

Hi all. I stumbled upon this website a few years back. http://efni.org/

It is a very interesting read. It basically does to Babylon 5 what BP WiH did for FS - make it more realistic and in-depth.

This page in particular details what could be thought of as a 'poor-man's energy shield.' http://efni.org/Interceptors_EWeb.htm If something similar was used in FS, it could even the odds between beam armed and non-beamed armed cap ships.

The duel mode turrets - that can shoot a burst of blobs followed by a beam is also an interesting idea :-)

NB - I have a feeling that the person who wrote it may not speak English as a first language, so expect a few grammatical errors hear and there.

Hope this helps :-)

Re: Possible source of inspiration
I go through that website every now and then (doing so right now as a matter of fact) and read up on the listed designs.  Their chronology and theories about shadow involvement in the Dilgar war and subsequently EA politics are most interesting.  I would occasionally think about what all of these ships would look like if they were created for the TBP mod.  The Tillman design looks like quite the Behemoth.  In regards to the spelling and grammatical mistakes, I feel as though there may be a language barrier causing translation issues.
