In order for the dev team to inflate our already fairly large egos, we'd like you to tell us where you've seen thread or mentions of the release of Diaspora.
This also helps us prevent misconceptions spreading, gets us valuable feedback from places where people feel more free to talk about the bad points of the game, and helps us offer tech support. But it's mainly about making sure we have trouble getting our massively swollen heads out of the door. :p

I used to be a member of that team. Had to quit when it became evident I can't do both Diaspora and that and had to choose. Was getting quite bored of Trek by then so the decision made itself, really. Still, a very ambitious project, I wish them luck.

Aaaaand their "how-to" has errors that I now have to tell them to fix. And they obviously didn't check the release thread for corrections. :banghead: At the risk of sound ungrateful for their trying to be newbie-friendly, much worse than no instructions is wrong instructions. For all I know, this has already been mirrored all over the Internet, spreading incorrect information everywhere. :sigh:

I'll take it as an unintentional compliment the design and execution of Tessie are good enough folks have difficulty figuring out she's not canon.

Read the article. Basically he's saying that he's a huge fan of the show. And he thanks Fab (perhaps another mention from another site? But most likely a friend of his called Fabienne) Explains the context of the games plot and calls the maps pretty. He also says that he really likes the music. Commends the quality of the game.
He makes a small criticism for the keypad configurations on the MAC saying they're a bit exotic for OSX (I personally know little to nothing about computers)
Then he asks what Gaius would think of all this :D
In the comments a few people have asked if this isn't a social network (there's a *private* social network called Diaspora), one said the QWERTY (french) keyboard is a bit tricky to play on for this game but commends how immersible the game is, and some ask if there's multiplayer despite the fact that the article said you could play multiplayer.
Finally, my degree in French has payed off :lol:
I must admit translating a document and passing on the information makes me feel a bit like a spy :P

If Diaspora wants a thick French accent, they can just ask MatthTheGeek to do some lines. It isn't a stereotypical accent by any means, but it is hard to understand sometimes.

I heard TotalBiscuit mention he'd bought a saitek joystick to play a "freespace 2 mod that was based on the BSG world" - the mention of BSG = had to try it out.
Yet to experience past 'briefing' but what i've seen is extremely interesting, just wish i could get the logitech dual-action controller fully working, keyboard/mouse feels hmph and I cant justify the expensive of a joystik, yet.

The archives are only available to subscribers, and even if the editor or whatever wanted the articles to be licensed under the GNU FDL and be freely available online, the guys at Future publishing wouldn't allow this, as the printed magazine would be pointless to buy. IMO

With first try sometime ago this year when I've tried to search for BSG PC game, i found mentioning Diaspora but made me believe that project is abandoned or still in development...
But days ago one buddy in BSG Online chat while playing gave me Youtube link with gameplay and game download links... Cant wait to come back from work when download will finish and try it out :nervous:

Coming from Star Citizen forums, too. It is mentioned at many places there. I especially like the implementation of the glide controls. Additionally everything else is very perfect, the Battlestar model, the sound/music, the mission design, that you included a cockpit. Thank you for this gem!

Sure enough, Diaspora is listed #25 in "The Top 50 Free PC Games" in PC Gamer's October 2013 issue. Unfortunately they got the URL wrong (http://www.diaspora.hard-light.net/ :banghead:) but people can Google to find it, unless there's a way to redirect that URL to the right one.

I saw in a german TV show about Computer culture, Nerd ethics and Computer Games. The show was called "Pixelmacher" (means Pixel creators). And the topic was "Modders are the best". They showed a little footage of Diaspora in the first scene and mentioned "Many games by modders resulted in outstanding projects".

I accidently found this while looking for a controller setup for bsg online and the search engine pointed me here :P.
Boy am i glad it did spent two days getting my bsg online account to work, and since i did i pretty much been playing this since i found it.
Bravo to the team though guys, amazing job, the voice acting, the graphics, the missions, the physics, all brilliant.
Not had my heart pump this hard playing a game in a long long long time.
That ign review is junk tho, really ign a free game with this level of production values and you only give it that score? Hell at this point this since i found it in 2013 is in the lead for my 2013 games of the year :P.
Really looking forward to future campaigns from the team, your ideas on stealth also look great, thank you all so much for this.

The X3 BSG mod released (http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=347344&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0&sid=e4d110e50ee5872b3b3746eaa8de58e0) a couple of weeks ago. Since they're using the Theseus (with permission) and crediting us for it, I suppose that counts as a mention. :)
Hopefully we'll get a proper thread on it from people who have X3 and have played it.

I personally don't care for Scott Manley but he seems to have some kind of following so maybe some people that hadn't heard of the mod yet will get a chance to play. It annoyed me that a lot of the comments were saying that it looked too easy when he was clearly playing on "Easy" mode.

Have you never read the comments on any YouTube video? If its not "too easy", it is "too hard and I could never do that". You can't win.
Having said that, Scott Manley did post the the second mission a few days ago with him playing on Normal and with TrackIR. But I didn't check the comments, mostly I am interested in the opinion of the person making the video, not the commentators because they rarely add value on YouTube anyway.

Installation on Linux is a little complicated but Windows should just be a matter of launching the installer for the game and then the installer for the patch. If you found anything difficult, do tell. I'm the guy responsible for the Windows installer, and I'd really like to know.
You might want to also link to The Babylon Project or Wing Commander Saga as both of those are also open source.

You might want to tell the guys complaining about the keybindings that the patches solved that issue (hopefully) and tell everyone that patch 1.1 is highly recommended for the video intros.

Thanks for the post. If you don't mind, I'd just like to point out that your title is incorrect - while Diaspora is certainly based off fs2, it is not a mod for fs2 - a more accurate description would be a fully standalone total conversion of it. It's no more a mod than any game based on the, say, Unreal 2 engine, is a mod for Unreal 2. As the title is now, it will lead many people to believe they need to acquire fs2 in order to play, and then install the "mod", which actually leads to less people willing to try it out. The message that it's completely standalone has been the hardest message to convey ever since we released Shattered Armistice.
