Title: We're not dead!
Post by: Lt.Cannonfodder on October 31, 2003, 07:54:35 am
We've been pretty quiet for some time, so here's something to show our progress.

These are shots of couple (almost) finished MG missions, not yet featuring our excellent new weapons made by Miburo. Notice the nice new effects and backgrounds :)

And finally, some shots of our cutscenes. Sadly, we can't show you our best screens, as they contain pretty big spoilers.

Oh, I should propably thank Artbeats for making those excellent new explosions, and Fabio for the planets used in the cutscenes and some backgrounds.

 :eek2:

My two favorite vessels... (asuming that is indeed a typhon)

I'd DL this for the cutscenes alone. :D

Yep. It is a Typhon. CF has done some great work on the the cutscenes and he is still improving some of them :)

We occassionally joke that we should just drop the FS2 bit and just make MG into an animated movie :D

Aaaah!  This is precisely the kind of thing we're looking for to put in the TVWP... do you have any generic solar system cutscenes you might be willing to lend us? ;)
Title: We're not dead!
Post by: karajorma on November 01, 2003, 03:05:52 pm
CF has stated that it's very easy for him to put something like that together. We don't have a generic anim at the moment but now you mention it I guess it wouldn't hurt :)

Hmmmm.... something to keep you drooling (not) :)

Goober, as karajorma said, making those .ani's is extremely easy. If you need something, I might be able to help you. :)

Yeh, just make a sphere, wireframe it. :p

I'd have to say that shockwave is overused. Everyone uses that Lightwave shockwave tutorial for their shockwaves these days...

Everything else is   I suppose.

Um. CF that orion is still mirrored. I assume it was from a test run and not the finished anim since you said you'd got rid of the mirroring.

Take a closer look. It's not mirrored :D

I guess you're right, DragonClaw. That shockwave is used alot. But at least we beginners have something to play with. :) Maybe I should tweak it a little to make it a bit more unique?

Yeah, you could try to adjust the colors a little, perhaps play with the distance with which the shockwave goes transparent in the texture tab. If your brave enough, you could adjust it in modeler :)  Hmm, I wonder what an oval shockwave would look like...

Besides I can't really show you any beauties we have in MG, they're on top secret and will stay in that way until we're done for release ;7

No you're certainly not dead. I love the cb anims and the shockwave is out of this world. The OVF Shu is cute. Is that a gattling gun you've stuck on my Aegis fighter-killer. Good teaser thread chaps. Did the trick.

Spoiler:
While we're on the topic - that Aegis remains one of my favourite terran mods. The texture use on that thing is brilliant.

[EDIT] The Burlywood was being lost in the BG. Yay for the spoiler tag! ;)

If you mean do they appear at different points during the campaign to further storyline elements in ways that the missions themselves can't then the answer is a most definate yes.

At the moment we're staying away from dialogue since none of us are professional voice actors so the cutscenes will tend to be more action orientated than the FS2 ones (half of which were mostly talk) but I don't suppose there will be too many complaints about that :D

For those who missed it the MindGames Teaser Trailer (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/freespace/Downloads/MG%20Teaser.avi) we released earlier is still up for download.

It was spliced together from a couple of the first animations CF did for MG and it's a little rough around the edges compared with the finished version but it should give an idea of what to expect from CF's anims.

Sorry to dampen the good feelings here, but why are you using the Shu, Reshef and Loki? With all the hundreds of MODs out there, couldn't you pick some new fighters that aren't appearing in half the post-FS2 campaigns out there?
Title: We're not dead!
Post by: Black Wolf on November 05, 2003, 09:33:48 pm
Spoiler:
Good Vasudan fighters are hard to find, and the Loki is a canon ship, the plans for which amost certaily would have been somewhere in Sol.

What else would you have them use?

The loki is a placeholder at the moment. CF wanted to render the scenes now to give us an idea what the finished product would look like and the pic was pretty enough to be worth showing here.

The Shu and Reshef were amongst the few new Vasudan fighters we could find. Mikhael our resisdent modder has stated that 158th gets priority so he's only going to be able to make a few mods for us. That means we get him to work on the must have mods that are unique to MG.
Basically that leaves me to work on all the ships that it would be nice to have and I'm a slow modder with middling ability at best. I am working on a vasudan ship but it's going to take me a while to get it finished because there are more important mods I need to do.

If you know of any less used vasudan fighters or bombers we'd be happy to look at them. Especially if they look more like FS1 ships than FS2 ones.

I very much doubt it. We've still got a fair few missions to write and since I was the only modder on the team for a long while things have been going slowly there. but things are starting to pick up. As you can see from the pics above most of the side work (animations, CB anis etc) is done. Now we need to get the real meat of the campaign done.

Then how, and where on earth did you get an editor or converter. I thought that there wasn't one and that they desided not to put DivX, or anything Like that.????????
Title: We're not dead!
Post by: karajorma on November 06, 2003, 02:10:17 pm
Assuming you're asking how we managed to get working cutscenes (I really couldn't quite grasp what you're on about).

The retail version of FS2 won't run movies. FS2_open uses media player and will therefore give you cutscenes in any format you have the codecs for.
Title: We're not dead!
Post by: Woolie Wool on November 06, 2003, 02:13:06 pm
They're DivX movies, and the DivX capability has been in the source for a long time.
Title: We're not dead!
Post by: jc4jc on November 06, 2003, 08:11:13 pm
so if the source supports it then will it play other formats as well.
