Richter's Decision ("The Lost Generation"/"Workings Of The Warp")
Richter's Decision
 - A "Workings Of The Warp"-related fiction -

Vice Admiral Richter slowly placed his glass on his table, turning away from the great panorama window in his office. The panorama of space had always been one of his most beloved sights but now when he had to see how once nearly flawless black of space had been stained by the remains of this senseless war he could not stand it. Archibald Richter was loyal to the GTVA, of that no one had any doubts, but he had evaded fighting in this particular war ever since it had begun. And now it was coming to an end - which end that would be, he would decide within the next hours.
His ship, the Noir, had been shadowing the enemy ever since they had made their move. Though a Deimos-class corvette the Noir's crew was able to keep it out of sight for as long as they wanted to - and yet it was not the time to reveal themselves to the enemy. Richter would think about his options very carefully and then decide wherever they would appear out of the shadows, guns blazing with the green plasma-fire or if such manners were left to the more mundane of soldiers in the GTVA fleet.
There was much need for skill and the cunning of Richter's men in times like this, when the Alliance was besieged from two sides by its enemies - and as soon as the matter here were resolved the Noir would, much to Richter's satisfaction, leave this place and turn towards fighting the arch-nemesis of the human race, the Shivans.

He reached out for this hand-held data-pad and made all information his agents had gathered during the last 18 months pass on the screen. He did not need to read it once again though as he had digested all this information over and over again. Even the newest of reports on the enemy from his agents and even those categorized under "NTT Sunder" (the name of recently captured enemy craft) were not new to him. There might be others, the fat beaurorats in Delta Serpentis who were members of the Intelligence only by title but not by word, action or even intelligence, who would just now get to read these reports - but Richter had them all already. He had them because it was the privilege of the decadent to be second with the news.  Those who really wanted to change the universe for the better were like Richter in places like this at the right time.

He placed the data-pad aside again and reached for his glass again. He got ready to drink another sip just to notice that the glass was empty.
He looked down into the empty glass and than came to a decision.
A placed a finger on the activation key for his intercom and than established a link to the Noir's bridge. "Captain Takari, the time for stealth and mercy is past. Order
Homecoming"
"Yes, Admiral" came the quick reply from the speaker box hidden the Vice Admiral's desk. From Captain Takari's voice he could hear that what she had been thinking - it was exactly the same thing which he had though after he had reached his decision:
It was about time.

This was just a short story-telling exercise... I hope you like it...
How the story continues you will come to witness in the campaign "The Lost Generation" and how it will be brought to an end in "Workings Of The Warp", once those will be released...

"When you work with water, you have to know and respect it. When you labour to subdue it, you have to understand that one day it may rise up and turn all your labours into nothing. For what is water, which seeks to make all things level, which has no taste or colour of its own, but a liquid form of Nothing?" - Graham Swift, Waterland
