I've started working on a new Corellian Corvette. It's very rough right now:
-
It looks like it's made out of plastic. Like it's solid and I could reach over there and pick it up. :)
Good luck with that.
-
That's "very rough"? :doubt: *goes cry in a corner*
Nice, I personally think you managed to get the silhouette very well.

I'm more or less tracing Turambar's model. :nervous:

Why rebuild it? Not criticizing, just curious.

Looks great so far.

I guess I find it difficult to get excited over working on someone else's model. He wasn't that far ahead that I'm losing much time, anyways.

Everybody everybody everybody, this is the last model we need finished in order to be asset-complete for our first release! Aaaaaaaaaaaah!
-
Yeah, that's something. :) Though last time I've seen the ISD, it was kind of rough along the edges.
-
The ISD is being textured.

Wooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Well, that explains it. :p
-
It's kind of ironic, the last ship we're completing before release is the first ship the world saw in the Star Wars universe.

-
Ha ha ha, yeah!
"Oh yeah, we've still got to put in that unimportant, insignificant little ship... :D"
-
Looks like Fantasy Flight Games is thinking the same thing.

Oh gods, I want one!
Always thought about buying it, but my friends aren't into scifi. I'd like to buy the game just for the miniatures if they have more than fighters
-
Nice work Bobbtman, hmmm a friend from my old days asked me to make a model for him, might do both RTS, and this level and see what happens

Just the mesh is like 20% of the work. If even the mesh wasn't done then it's faster to just do it right from the ground up, anyway. Nice work so far btw :)
-
Thanks newman. Here's an update. Everything you see here has been UV mapped, so it's mostly ready to texture.

Nice!
-
looking good bobbtmann
-
Looks great. :) Can't wait to see it textured.
-
Fantastic! I can see it shooting back at a star destroyer in my mind. Getting close!
-
And you've got the little escape pod too. :D
-
That's not my pod. I'm just using sawed off versions in my model; you can see four of them popping out of the hull on the underside. I'll texture the pod, though, it so that they fit together in a unified way.
-
I find it interesting how adding a bit of detail to the texture seems to make the mesh less detailed. I suppose that when there's no texture, our minds fill in the blanks, giving the appearance of more detail.

-
I'm sure it'll be fine once you add in normals with a bit of your magic.
-
Here's an udate:

looking veeeery nice :)
-
beautiful udate!

Lovely. I really can't wait to see both this and ISD finished. We could then recreate ANH opening scene in-mission. :)
-
We would actually need an ISD-I to recreate that scene accurately (ours is a II), but yeah, the first 10 minutes of ANH are probably my favorite part of any SW media. Someone's gotta do the opening shot at some point :)

How different is the ISD-I? Is it just the comm tower?
Here's an update. There's an odd seam on the top, but I don't think it'll show on a normal map.

-
They built a completely new model for ESB. The ANH model is substantially less detailed overall and differs in quite a few subtle and not-so-subtle ways. Damn, I wish Brand was here, he could give all the specifics. And hot damn that corvette is lookin' fine.
-
I know that the comm tower was different, armament was noticeably altered, the main guns were 6 two-barrel turbolasers and 2 big ion cannons, plus it had tractor beam projectors in the hangar bay.
-
Here (http://www.modelermagic.com/?p=11205) is a gallery of closeups of the original (Now Imperial I-class) model. Looks like they may have changed the antenna array sometime after filming. Maybe it was used for some shots in later films too? Dunno.

Devastator as part of Death Squadron. (http://images.wikia.com/starwars/images/1/11/Executor_and_escorts.jpg)
SWTC has a list of differences: (http://www.theforce.net/swtc/isd.html#features)
ISD-I
triple vectrals on primary thruster nozzles
no protruding observation nodules on command tower
main bay: 8 transverse ribs on the long walls
secondary bay: hangar on aft wall
device akin to linear array struts is mounted on command tower forward face
huge quad cannons in the minor brim trench notches
stern triangular keel plating is further astern
tower support neck meets hull with a vertical surface
main turrets: six doublet heavy turbolaser batteries; two doublet ion cannons
ISD-II
ring baffles on primary thruster nozzles
some bridge windows possibly visible on command tower
bridge panorama situated beneath thick vertical feature
main bay: 7 transverse ribs on the long walls
secondary bay: hangar on forward wall
no obvious guns in the brim trench
stern triangular keel plating is closer to ventral bulb
tower support neck meets hull with a continuous diagonal surface
main turrets: eight octet turbolaser batteries
slightly different proportions for the main hull
(the corvette is looking great btw)
-
As awesome as getting uber-nerdy about differences like that is, I think for drool-worthy promotional purposes, whipping up a video with the ISD-II model will more than suffice. :p
-
You might be underestimating the rabidness of certain Star Wars fans :P
-
Yeah, they're real sticklers. Some guy liked an image of my dreadnought, so I showed him the model in the round and he was like: "Nope, those engines aren't canon. It's no good."
Psh.
-
Yeah. And this for a ship that is canonically known to have thousands of variants by the time FoTG is set.
-
Aren't your engines the same configuration as the ones on the Outbound Flight cover painting?

Yeah, they are. It's kind of weird.
Anyways, here's an update:
(http://i1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc433/bobbtmann/Fate%20of%20the%20Galaxy/Star%20Wars%20WIPs/corvette10_zps4bb76252.png) (http://s1211.photobucket.com/user/bobbtmann/media/Fate%20of%20the%20Galaxy/Star%20Wars%20WIPs/corvette10_zps4bb76252.png.html)
-
Super thumbs up. That's looking amazing, keep it up.
-
Indeed, awesome. I have to say, you've matched Brand-X and his fighter models with this CRC. :)
-
Wow. Just wow. Amazing work here, bobbtmann.
-
It's in.

THAT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really can't wait for this to be released.
Keep up the good effort guys.
-
No escape this time!

-
Awww, YEAH. Look'n damn fine. :pimp:
-
Did the escape pods give you any trouble?
-
Did the escape pods give you any trouble?
Not really, I suppose. I had to mess with them a bit to make them nicely launchable and all, but that was expected.
-
Dang, shame we've only got an ISD II... Unless someone makes the I, the best we can hope for is a homage to ANH opening scent. :)

When was ANH released in smell-o-vision?
-
If the audience would please hold their farts until the trash compactor scene, thank you.
-
Stupid typo. :) Anyway, I love the new Blockade Runner. Especially functional escape pods.
-
Congratulations, really beauty
